Making Money: Blogs and Hubs

Establishing an online presence is a key to building a better business. You need to promote your work and make money to continue the cycle of writing and publishing on your blog. This is critical when dealing with publishing your work online. Passive income is possible, but the foundation must be there.

The 50 reasons why you need a blog and Hubs to get your business going faster and money coming in to build your book and your business...

1) Understand that an online presence, such as a blog can create long term demand for a product you have created.

2) Your products can be displayed on your blog and it will not look as if you are being pverly promotional. Blogging is about publishing great content.

3) It shows book publishers you already have a potential market.

4) It helps you write a book. How many people do you know who can say "I write a blog/hub and it didn't improve my writing"

5) You'll learn way more about marketing yourself and your soon to be published book.

6) It is really easy to get a blog up and running these days: go to google and write the term write a blog, and you'll get blogger, type pad, word press, and hundreds of others just to name a few.

7) You learn dedication, I write everyday, my blog is up every day, and everyone of my readers for my writing blog expect this.

8) It sets me up for a day of writing. I've not looked at emails, I've written something.

9) A sense of pride that my writing is published (For those of you who don't know, if it's published it's also copyrighted.)

10) It's a challenge, and as most of you know I love challenges.

11) Got google AdSense? You've got a stream of income.

12) You have control of your content on your blog.

13) You can be very interactive with people who comment on your blog or on your hubs. Comments are worth more than gold. Believe me, I love reading your comments.

14) It's your writing. What will it take to make you want to succeed?

15) Google AdSense and Other Affiliate Marketing. It can make some money. ( For example amazon or other types.)

16) A Community is built by you and for your work.

More Blogging and Writing Points

17) A Better Way to learn how to market, you make mistakes, but they are on your blog, not in your book.

18) A Joy of creating Something of your own a blog doesn't need to look like a million bucks, but it needs to look good

19) A good looking blog will bring traffic which can increase sales for you book.

20) Write Content everyday, or have something to make people come back

21) Have fun with your blog, and in the beginning experiment.

22) Never ever stop writing-- or publishing. Write enough and you will publish that book you have always wanted.

23) Remember writing a blog isn't writing a hub, a blog is more a journal, a hub is more a published book. This means publsih a good well written long hub, and then work it together with another.

24) Hubs are great to help you improve your writing... how to improve your writing is by getting an editor and working with them to improve your lastest hubs. Then improve your writing in other ways-- suich as on your blog.

25) USe hubs wisely, and you can make a steady stream of income on it as well, but be advised, that does take time and more time and more hubs.

26) Keep writing to publish a book. Not to mention editing, and marketing and building that business so that your newly published book will sell.

27) Write Good Content on a Hub, this is important, no content, no point to write a comment.

28) Your blogs and Hubs are not journals, nobody needs to know what you did all day ( of course if you're into that... but I'm not)

29) Understand that this is your hub and your blog, take pride in it. Edit as needed and take comments with a grain of salt. if someone tells you that you write well, thank them, but the flip side is also true, if they complain, then thank them anyways.

30) This is a part of your online presence. Make good and useful use of it. BE polite and care about your fans. You need them, not the other way around.

31) Give plugs to people who helped you get where you are now, do this often, in hubs and in blogs. of course, don't go overboard, but do spend some time reviewing another writer's book or finding a way to build a better blog, and getting and acknowledging the help you go from a website or a web designer.

Why 50? 50 seems like...

  • Because 50 will take me a while to do
  • I want more than 50
  • 50 is way too many, I'll never get it done!
  • well, I suppose that I need to get started. NOW!

Now for the drum roll please the last and most Important:

32) Network your blogs and hubs.

33) Spend time writing them

34) Try your best and try it again and even with your best and you make a mistake, it's okay.

35) Be humble about your work, we all make mistakes.

36) Think of this as a legacy.  It will be there for a long while.

37) Have fun, time is short you don't need to get overconfident about them.

38) Market and link with other hubs and blog generously, they will return it in kind.

39) Learn about marketing from the pros, there are a lot of books out there, I've listed some on my 10 must have books, but there are more than that!

40) Know that not everyone thinks like you do.  Encourage people who have a different line of thought than you do to comment.

41) Understand that 1-2% of people comment, treat this is the "gospel truth"

42) Never never never never give up.

43) Learn the fine art writing comments on others hubs and blogs, it is not "me me me" time.  Read theblog or hub.  Then comment, it is the highest type of compliment. (PS to all the people who comment Thanks!)

44) You are the writer, the readers read your hub and blog, thank them for it.

45) Be humble and proud of your work, but also understand that you will get someone saying this doesn't work.  That's Okay.

46) Understand the Value of Affiliate Marketing, but understand the value of even getting a couple of dollars a month.  SO what?  what does it mean to you?

47) Learn from others, there are some who are great some who aren't and some who you'll wonder why they write a blog on their lunch.  Each person has value.  You are to tell them that.

48) enjoy your experience.  There is joy in working on a hub or a blog...

49) Just keep writing

50 ) Keep writing and learning, and improving your writing.

joe-- a hub is the thing you have just read, it is sort of like a mini-website where you leave teh content you have created and build links to it.

Joseph Dabon 19 months ago

Fine. But what is a hub? I am a blogger, http://www.joespulpbits.com and http://homebizresources.net/ and I am down to my last stretch of effort in trying to monetize them. Any ideas how?

Thanks for the advice. I am thinking of starting a blog, but hesitant because I doubt I will get many readers. Maybe that's not the only point of a blog.

Thanks Rebecca your words and advice are warm and encouraging! My plan is that eventually my hubs will produce enough cash flow to afford a paid-for blog! Then from there the book! Meanwhile I'll come back to your hubs for support and education!

Rebecca E, Finally I get the importance of a blog, thanks to your fine points here. I've been neglecting mine lately since it's new with only a small following. This inspires me to get back out there and be consistent for the sake of my own improvement. Thanks for the direction.

Ok, I feel that there are points in this blog that have the potential to flick the switch of a new C S Lewis or W B Yeats. I say that for a couple of reasons.

1. I live in Ireland very close to where they did and feel we have something special in this Island in regard to the arts. :) (must be the air)

2. Because Rebecca has helped me as a writer and directed me in ways I would not have allowed others to even say. Being published to the point where you make your money at it can make you feel you have the right to know it all. She showed me, actually TOLD me that this is not the case and is smart enough not to bite directly but to come at me in a way that I never expected she then reveals an alternative and or a better and constructive way to go. Its advice and 99% right I may sometimes disagree but thats my choice!

As she says we all make mistakes, I am terrible at spelling and lazy when it comes to reading back over my work at times. However with Rebeeca and her help I am at a serous juntion in regards to novel publishing which is a huge leap from my published poetry. I am in Ireland and have an agent here for europe, she is in Canada but itslikeshe is just next door. Proof that the net and hubs work well.

I see it like this, Imagine a city where 100 people can sell tomatoes but there is one shop that sells way more than the rest. Yet his tomatoes are the same as the other 99 so why does every one go to this one particuliar guy. They go because this guy smiles every time you see him he knows his customers and he knows that a smile can change attitudes, "its a mindset" Hubs and Blogs are your smiles. He also offeres advice on how to cook the tomatoes in new ways he has tried. He then remembers them when they come back and asks about their results, also like the Blogs and Hubs.

This guy knows his market and he knows the tomatoes inside out as it were. People deal with people not the product. Books arnt any different because if you are a good writer they carry themselves so you need to get more people coming to your shop.

I often feel when someone says to me "I am reading your book and am half way through, cant wait to read more" that they have my underwear and are examining them. A Book is personal it is yourself your inner emotions thing come out that you wouldnt always say in public so it can be like underwear. :)

So get writing get to know your market and your books will sell, like... tomamtoes!

Really nice Hub Rebecca
