Writing 101: Crack! How to Break the Writer's Block; Don't Say You Can't Write When You Have Focus
69Writer's Block?
I know writer's block is a hard thing. Sometimes, though it is not writer's block so much as it is fear of failure. Some days I can write a lot and others, I can't face the computer, but either way I still write. I write a hub, write a post for my blog, I write on a different topic, I write with a pen and paper, or on the computer. I print out the work that I'm having trouble with and write on that paper.
The point is I write, which is the finest way to get rid of writers block. Sometimes it is not that simple.
You're possibly thinking, "But I can't write, isn't that the point of writer's block?" It doesn't mean you can't write! If you write on hub pages, you've been writing. It's that simple. If you write and think of it as a business you will find more success. Think of your writing as a money making business.
Really I doubt there is such a thing as writer's block, more a fear of a certain topic which you are currently writing about. I ask myself do I have a plan for this topic for today? Is there something more important than this piece I'm working on?
If my answer to the two questions is Yes and No, well then I don't have writer's block, just a different set of priorities. Let me give you an example: If I write about my non-fiction piece for hours, and can't seem to get it out of my head, but my fiction is sitting on the back burner, I don't have writer's block, just I'm working on something else.
If it's No and Yes, then my priorities are not on this topic. Sorry no writer's block just something else on the go. Normally something else i am writing about. Then I'm not into that topic which I was finding hard to work on. It's no big deal I just have to make it my next "big" thing.
It is hard to say that writing is easy but what are your goals? Some times you have the wrong set of goals. I might want to make a million dollars, but sitting and playing a computer game because I have writer's block won't help me make that money. Again my priorities are for something else. My interest level is low for the piece I am NOT working on.
Like a business change your priorities for the day and continue writing something else. What is the big goal? To be a published author. That's the big goal to be published.
If you want to be published you need to write. Publishing means something is written, and you wrote it, hence it is a great motivator for breaking a writer's block.

What is Wirter's Block?
See results without votingI was speaking to a writing buddy of mine and he mentioned that I've been talking about writing about the death of my son, but after five years still am talking about it. I want to publish a book on this experience, and have it published sometime soon. But everytime I write something i am faced with a mental block.
Why? I can't face it, I can be better off in denial. I'll probably begin it, but won't finish it. I might be too hard, or I'll find excuses, or my passion for this isn't all it could be or simply because I fear the idea of publishing this. Maybe it's teh whole publsihing part of it, I might get negative reviews, but then, we all know publishing anything means a negative review.
It isn't writer's block, simply lack of focus. It's not as if I can't, I could but in the end I haven't begun the work. That is the important aspect. Talking and doing. I need to sit down and focus on the topic at hand and some times that is where the blank screen hits me and makes it all the harder.
Here is what I do to avoid writer's block:
I set a time to write, each day every day at that specific time. I also decide on what I am going to write. It can be long or short, it can be one topic or more. It can also be on something that needs to be done, that day. it helps to set a smaller goal than the big goal of publishing this someday. You aren't publishing it today, so why not write 750 words or so?
What ever the thing/ time/ topic is I make the plans ahead of time. I also tell others what is going to happen. This makes me accountable to others. That is important. Part of breaking writer's block is to be accountable for what you need to to.
It is a business writing after all. You are a writer and you need to get writing, and for some this business provides them money for what else they need. What needs to be done? focus on the small things.
When you think of writing as a business in which you can make money either online or by the more traditional methods, there is one important thing to remember: writers have focus. So crack it's time to break the writer's block!
Go for it, and publish that novel, or book, and it will seem as if the writer's block is gone with a published book.

Very true! Great hub. :)
Despite all the advice on writers block (including my own - lol), there isn't just one way to "cure" writers block. Just know it will pass but don't fall victim to it. Try the great approaches in this hub until you find what works and if nothing does at that point (which was my case some time ago), take the break you may need, but always come back to it! Great hub Rebecca!!!
writer's block? hmmm,..aahh---okay! i can only say the more people validate the stronger it becomes. it could be a mental block or your mind sending a message that its tired and needs a break.
Writer's block always comes up during november. I just keep writing, even if it's random and unrelated. I had a major case of writer's block once and I just started writing about the character making breakfast in as much detail as possible. The result was a better understanding of the character and she ending up going in a different direction. I've had writers block for other stuff, but hubpages has turned into the distraction I needed.
Great info.
Very well put together rebecca! set your priorites and do them organized and in a timely fashion and always follow up....hmmm sounds like a nurse to me :) way to go!!
I don't so much have writer's block as i have writer's disinterest. I've come through it before though it's just a matter of clearing out all the useless ideas and focusing on one good one.But like you say Rebecca I try to write something even if its random notes, this has a way of clearing the blockage so to speak and letting the back up flow freely.
I have never suffered from it yet. Maybe it's because I am too dumb.
I have writers block now- so this is great for me thanks
