Do You Really Care Enough to Change? Change Isn't Easy... But Why A Lot of Things Would be Better If One Tries
66Change IS Constant
There are many people who love the concept of inertia. They will talk about changing or improving, they will talk about how they want to make more money, or work less or improve their relationships with other people. They talk. They spend more time talking, and nothing gets done.
Why? Because like most people they do not like change. This holds true with a business that seems to be going well, but then the rules change. Or you have been told you are a good for nothing hack... (been there, done that!) then (in theory) you are forced to change.
The other thing that most people do not like to do is to go back and change what they have done. By this I am thinking hard about myself, it is a business, and improving your work on hubpages is a key to making money online. If we all wanted to really change our work we would, but usually you do not change anything until you have to.
The first step is to change.
Improve Your Writing-- and Publish More
Your worst hubs: If you have short hubs, which are less than 600 words, then you need to edit them. This is adding more information, and poems can also be added to. I have found I am more likely to comment if a poet would explain why they wrote something in the first place. Or an "introduction" to a well written poetry hub, these should either be added to or deleted.
If you have poor traffic, you need to go and fix that. If you have a website that is preforming poorly you will fix that. Add links, and if you do not even have a link to a hub or website you are in trouble. First you must improve your writing-- this is get you traffic. When I improved my writing before I published my work, I saw an immediate increase in traffic.
Of course this is simply said, not often done.
The changes you make will mean long term improvements. What this means is a newer business model. Go to Google Analytics and make certain you are looking at hubpages. Analytics will tell you much more than any other stats but it needs to be used with other stats.
Look for how long traffic stays on your hubs, and also who and what gets you AdSense earnings. The reason that you are not improving your earnings is that you have not included enough keywords, or are targeting the right sort of keyword. (For example "money" is a keyword, but "making money online with blogger" is more targeted for your traffic. Each hub has its own definition of targeted traffic.)
Part of improving your worst hubs you need to understand that if you have only part of the stats, you are in a danger zone already. Some hubs will get traffic, but only with more links, others will need links and more keywords to get any sort of change. You will need to understand that your hubs have several difference stats which you need to be looking for, and these need to be analysed as well.
Step Two: Going and Doing
Step Two is the action step, by now you have used your Google Analytics account along with your Google AdSense account, and your hub stats. You have printed out this information and begun the journey to improving your work.
You will need to go into the edit section of your hub, and the first thing you will do is fix your capsules, using your keyword research which you have done for that hub, you are going to add some keywords, and more information so that even a novice can fix their own hubs. Sometime this means deleting a particular capsule which can make a difference or adding more text.
You will be working with Google Analytics, and you will also be using the Google Adwords keyword tool, or another keyword research tool, (there are many of them out there) and you will add the appropriate content. The primary work that you will do is on one hub, and this is adding content that still sounds good to the reader.
Next, you will begin to add links to your work. This is important to do, as it builds trust that your work is out there. Now, in my mind, a link to social networking sites is better than no links to your work at all. The best however is a purely organic link to your work. The more of those you get the better your chances for money, and increased traffic.
The links you choose should be of good quality and you should not simply focus on one or two means of getting traffic, like social networking sites, or article directories, but use several streams of linking to get traffic to your improved hubs.
Now, be advised that some topics are "eyebrow" topics that really should not be used, and those who do use them will claim a lot of traffic, but these are in over-saturated niches, and they are now being frowned upon (read: dating, relationships, or really any topic in that area.) While you will get traffic, the rules for these topics are changing, and you might be doing a lot of changes if you stay within the confines of a couple of the "eyebrow" topics.

Been There and Done That. Don't Want to Do this Again.
Barring the fact that a lot of people are faced with changes to Terms of Service and of online writing sites, the key is that like site promotion, you have to do this on a regular basis. It is not enough to go to a keyword research tool, and find the highest paying topics or keywords, but rather it is going that extra step.
Your content must be original, but you also must know a bit about your subject. I can write about writing, but I choose to write that on my blog. I can also work with publishing or anything of that nature, but for my own sanitym I have several different places where I write and make money.
I also believe in the value of not worrying about do follow links and no follow links, but rather looking at where you are placing your links to your work. If your earnings are poor, it might be a good time to look at the stats you have accumulated, and find out what changes are needed.
Publish Again-- No, Change Your Writing
This is a business. You have read this so many times, but you will also need to change your thinking. When referring to change I am referring to the people who are beginning or have be forced to change their plans. This happens.
-- Change is change, but one type of change will help you greatly. Changing your focus on what you are making that day into what you are making for that month is a very big step. Not everyone makes a payout per month from Google AdSense.
-- Content, quality original content, is easy to do, but for some that requires a bit of a change. Many are used to writing content can for the most part is duplicated elsewhere. Some of the best thing your can do is read books on how to improve writing, in this case what you have already published.
-- No one ever said you had to like change, but if you get into the habit of making small changes to improve your writing and your hubs you will find step two is simply, a step not a leap.
-- If a certain change ( such as adding more content or changing your keywords or adding certain links) in your business didn't work, as in your were linking and doing more links with your hubs or websites, and you saw a negative result, just make another change to see where that goes.
-- It is a business, and well, change happens, it might not even be as "huge" as you expected. You have already published a hub, a fine hub, and now it is time to improve upon the traffic, which means improving the writing so people stay longer and read more of your work.
-- If you change or improve what you publish make sure that people will come back and re-read your work.

If you are working towards increasing your traffic, or increasing the money you make with your websites, blogs or hubs, you will need to build a business model. For example you will need to plan what your yearly goals will be in terms of traffic and links and money from the affiliate programs you are with.
Using keyword research tools such as the Google AdWords Keyword tool, is only a beginning, but it is hard to start when you are not willing to continue with the action of editing your work. I am in no way suggesting that this is "fun." It is only fun when you begin to see tangible changes due to your changes on your earnings or traffic.
To your success in this business.

Interesting ideas, thanks for sharing. Rebecca E...
Have a good day
OK. I clicked on Stumble Upon and "liked" your hub. It's just that easy? Wow. I will be doing this more often. Thanks!
OK! Will do!
So, I am looking at this hub of yours. Where is the stumbleupon link? Do we click on "link to this page" on our own hub? (Gee, I feel like such a newbie!)
OK, RebeccaE, this is an awesome hub! I have been on this page for at least 30 minutes and I still haven't absorbed it all. Bookmarked for further study and I can hardly wait to improve my hubs. Question. The links reference. Do you mean links to outside websites with complimentary content or links to our own hubs? I've never used a link to social networking. Can you explain what that would look like? Each hub has a "like" button for FB but that obviously is not what you are referring to.
You are now one of my HubPages mentors. Hope you're willing to hear from me a lot!
Thanks for the great post!
Rebecca- Great hub!! I learned alot, even took notes. Though currently I am only posting on "The Hub" to share, not really to try and make any money. But I have been thinking about if I could make money or not. I tried to do some research, was a little intimidating to say the least. This helped. Again, thank you. -Paul
Really good tips, you have won me. I now want to read more of your hubs and change my hubs for the better. Cheers! :)
Hi Rebecca, great hub and really interesting info. will certainly have a look at my hubs as well as myself. Many thanks.
nice hub, a bit of information, keep it up.
thank you, Rebecca, for giving a whole new idea to bring traffic.
helpful hub, thanks
Tools I can use. Thanks for the incite
It's all about failing enough times until you find success!
Great informative Hub Rebecca. There are some really great points here and lets face it you are right, very few of us like change! (me included).
Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.
a great hub full of fantastic information that we all need. thank you
Ah good :) I hadn't noticed that this hub already had a 60+ score but that makes perfect sense. Looking forward to your next writings! :)
A very thoughtfully written hub. Instead of improving some of my low-traffic hubs, I have deleted them altogether.
up and beautiful! Well written and informative. Good advice. I need some of this change...
I see you're a capable writer and many of your hubs are longer than mine but there is something I wish to point out. I recently saw your apology hub and I don't know who criticized you in that hub but there is some truth to it.
Every hub is about 'thinking like a business, keywords and doing something to earn online', at least the last dozen hubs are about exactly that. It's all true but nothing we haven't seen before.
Keep up the good work although some change wouldn't hurt? :)
Rebecca you always give me some new tools to work with when I read your hubs at my traffic has approved gradually over these last few months. I have deleted hubs and rewritten hubs. Thank you so much for all your good information as it's much appreciated.
You cannot remind us too often, Becca, about the importance of change as relates to our hubs. To me the word change in that respect means fix. What can I do to older hubs, for example, to fix them to bring in more traffic? Would you agree?
What useful pointers and advice! I have been watching people complain about loosing traffic or money and noticed that little simple changes I have been making has increased my income and traffic. I think the changes that HP and Google have been making has helped me in the end.
Thanks for sharing this useful info!
