Fix It 101: The Things To Fix To Help with Hubscores
66Content-- Quality Content is Key-- Do Not Spam
If you have 350 hubs and your personal hub score is a 1 does this mean you have a problem with quality content? The simple answer is that to both Google and hubpages yes. There is such a thing as spam and a drive to writea million hubs is not going to help. Google dislikes spam. So do most readers. the question that the hubber asked is why do they have this problem? They only want to make money.
A Money trap where more is better... but they don't understand the basics to hubpages. Quality content always trumps poor content and poor effort. or both, or duplicate content. Their score should alone tell them something, but they aren't giving much effort into their writing. They do have some good hubs, but not many. This is a business and we all look for the best, or at least I hope we all do.
They are wondering why this is the case. Why do they have so many hubs and such a poor score? I'll say three things are the biggest problem: Lack of links, lack of quality content, and just lack of something interesting.
Fix it 101: Stop IT! STOP PUBLISHING HUBS NOW
If I was to give some advice, the very first thing I would say to this hub writer is this STOP WRITING HUBS NOW! no matter now many more hubs you write, your hub score will not go up. It really can't go down.
What it looks like to a casual reader is a whole bunch of spam. The topic which was chosen for many of the hubs are "photo galleries." Okay not that this is a bad thing, but they aren't something most people would look for. In fact I can probably find all their photos everywhere on the Internet. The quality of many of the photos would be consideredstock photos. This is a business go for original and quality photos in a photo gallery.
Now, normally I am not a stickler for grammar, or for spelling, I know I make a lot of mistakes, but really, if I can see them, so can other who have a better grasp of the English language than I do. Please, use the edit and spell check button. Not that you might find all your mistakes, but at least some need to be caught. If I can see them, others definitely will.
Next.. anything that has a hub score of 55 or below has to go NOW. Delete it, don't bother fixing it. See, right now with a quick check most of the hubs written are below a 60 and there are no comments. Or just one or two. Not anything I would personally read either, these are a couple hundred of the same photo gallery.
Also, Because there are only one or two comments, this means that there is no interactivity. Sorry no interactivity, no return visits. Frankly there was one hub which really interested me, but because I had to look so hard, and because there was really no effort on returning comments I didn't bother to write one.
But really to increase your hub score, deleting all hubs below a score of 55 will do that, (somewhat) but also adding a few comments below your photos. The fact of the matter is most of the photos are not the greatest quality. So the impression is that it looks like spam. Impressions do matter.
Yes, you need to care about what you write, be passionate about it!

Look at the traffic sources, and then try to find out what works and what doesn't. I took a quick look at this hubber'soverall hubs, and for the most part I would say that they have very little traffic, and are wondering what is going on. For one thing they have a lot of followers, ( for teh quality of hubs out there) but probably not too much traffic. I suspect most of their milestones are on the lower end.. except for possibly the number of hubs they have written. (This is of course an educated guess)
Beyond the obvious, there are few things which might help your hub score.
-- comment on others hubs, Do NOT EVER comment "your hub is great" or anything like that. In this case the hub score is so low that a whole bunch of spam like comments will be taken for that--spam.
-- find your three best scoring hubs and fix them up and add links to them. Only the three best scoring hubs.
-- Action means also deleting hubs, since I began this hub, this particular hubber has published another 7 hubs.. not the way to go. More is NOT better. ( edit: they have in fact now deleted about 50 hubs, but still haven't done much in terms of improving any of the other hubs)
-- Word count, no words no word count, it will be listed as a poor word count hub, this isn't a good thing. They probably also have many flagged as duplicate, and these hubs need to be deleted. They drop scores.
How to publish a good hub:
Okay giving out some "secrets" here-- well if you have read my hubs you'll know them but this is for others who just began to read my hubs:
--A good hub has anywhere between 300- 1,500 words of written text in it, this can be under the text module or as a caption under a photo. Otherwise in general it is of poor quality.
-- A good hub has a score of 60 after any length of time. Anything less usually should signal a warning flag to a writer. ( So something that was written say 6 months ago and has a hub score of 50... well that needs to be fixed up.)
--A good hub has links to it from beyond hubpages, use the social networking sites to your advantage to begin with. Yes this means actual work to some, but really it takes only 5 seconds.
--A good hub uses the power of an idea and keywords to get traffic.
--A good hub has something for everyone
--A good writer can understand that some people like a hub, and some don't but everyone has a voice. Negative comments should be welcomed.
--A good writer understands that this is a passion and a business and that often they write to help, not to make money.
--A good writer accepts that sometimes things simply don't work out, but they keep trying to improve.
-- A good hub has a score of 60 or more.
-- A good hub has interaction, a poll a comment that is replied to, something for everyone.
--A good hub doesn't just seem pasted together. It also doesn't look like it is trying to be a "make money" hub, product reviews are okay, but see Great hub writers of product reviews to see how they do these.
-- a good writer has a personal hub score of 75 or more... anything less is BAD NEWS. It is easy to get a score of 75 or more, if you interact and write high quality hubs.
Okay I could go on, but really this is the basics, content, traffic links, keywords, quality. They all work together and leave a great impression with the readers.

If they are looking to make money with Google, this isn't the way to go: I know I am sounding harsh but in all honesty. to have this low a hub score and the types of hubs that they have sends a very bad signal to other writers on hubpages.
I would be very surprised if google is looking with kindness on these hubs.
See Google, like all search engines, looks for quality, traffic and links, but I suspect that quality is the big thing on google. It is simple to add links to a lot of places, but often it is the quality that counts. (Remember this when you are about to publish a hub: Quality counts.)
Not quantity, which is I think the mentality of this writer. If a writer focuses on money they will do anything to get it, and then their writing will suffer. I know I make mistakes and I know that I am trying to fix them, the key point is that I am trying to fix my mistakes. their hubs speak volumes, photo galleries of ladies, and some very weak titles.
Trust me, Google is smart, and this isn't the way to go about making money. Please write out a basic business plan and then follow it. Make sure it isn't vague and that you focus on writing and quality and linking. Set a time frame and a certain number of hours you are willing to devote to improving your online presence. This will help with two things: money and Google keywords.
This is a business, not something that you can write spam on.
If you have an Author Score Below 75 You Would ...
See results without votingOne last word--
I normally don't write these hubs, but this is not the first time I have seen such question in the answers section on hubpages. ( usually it links with "I'm not making money and my score is.. why is this?")
So this is both an attempt to help and to warn what do happen if you are focused on "fast cash" and not quality or anything else. One view is enough and one view was all I needed to make me not want to look for some good things.
Of course as a bonus this makes me want to write better and to improve my own writing. I have to succeed and work better. I really should publish better hubs!
To our success on hubpages.

Thank you for the advice and help. Since I have not published in a year, my individual hub scores have fallen. I was looking for ideas on how to handle this issue.
Words of wisdom to live by. As a Newbie to Hubpages, I always look forward to useful advice that will allow me to do my best.
Thank you. Looking forward to reading more of your work.
Blessings,
~Lisa
I've just deleted several of my low scoring hubs so it seems like I'm doing the write thing. Thanks for the info.
Rebecca E.
You are so knowledgable. I usually have a total hubscore in the mid 90's. Out of my 96 hubs I have about 10 that sometimes fall below 75. For some reason I thought 70 was the danger point. Sometimes they go up again, and I always write Evergreen, no holiday jazz. Should I delete the under 75 hubs? Thanks. I feel like I should be doing better. I see I finally made $100 in Oct on Amazon, and now another $45. And I have about $85 on HP ads. My adsense is only about $50 and so far I have not rec'd. any of this money, I guess I should check my checking A/C as I did PayPal and used an account I don't use much. I think it takes an extra month to get the cash too? It's finally taking off, and I recently published a book on tarot, so lots of my attention is going to that. I self published, and am sorry, I spent quite a bit to have help with marketing, and really they just want me to buy a bunch of my own books at a reduced price and sell them myself. I belong to a Metaphyscial Society and they have expressed interest, so the only way I can make out on the book is on online sales. I have it on lots of my hubs, it's about tarot, which is also Metaphysics,so the book is on all my Astrology hubs too. I don't mean to bother you, but you write clearly. Thank you. Jean
intresting, I create hubs with my own content and words but still i find the message duplicate, How to over come
Hi Rebecca,
I learned a lot from your hub and the comments following it.Even if I remember half of the tips I should do better.
Looking forward to more.
Thanks!
Without being to keen on repeating what everybody else has said already, that was a very informative post. Thanks a lot for spending you're valuable time on writing something purely with the intention of helping others.
Great information. Thank you for sharing it. God Bless You Dear Heart.
I appreciate the fact that quality counts for something here on hubpages. I am still new at the hubpages phenomena, but knowing the harder I work (really work) the less likely I am to become part of the scenery, this tell me that I may have the opportunity to stand out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Actually, I am new to the whole social media outlet. I am passionate and determined to start out with a strong first impression of my writing. I wish I had read this before writing my first hub. I am looking for any help I can get to start out strong :)
I am new to Hubpages and this is the most helpful hub I have read so far. Your constructive comments are great advice to someone who is just starting out on here.
At first I thought your title said "101 ways" to fix a hubscore, and I was wondering where the 101 ways were!
This is a great hub with lots of relevant information that I will try to use. Thanks for writing it!
I m new to hubpages, i joined 2 years back and then forgot about it, and now all of a sudden i again found the writer in me. Even though all my hubs were still above the 60 mark, but i decided to delete all of them and start fresh. And now all i have is 4 hubs, but i am writing another one. And as everyone here has said, comprehensive hub, with all the details that a newbie like me needs to learn. Thank you for your kind advice.
I've bookmarked this hub for future reference. After only five months here, I have much to learn. I appreciate finding hubs such as this one that explains things so clearly.
Thank you for this informative hub. I´m new in hubpages so I´m still learning a lot.
Thanks Rebecca E.
Thanks for the very valuable information you have shared with the hub community. I am a new hubber and started thinking along the lines of quantity. I have been panicking and thinking I should be able to hit a target of more hubs than I have put up during my short life on Hubs so far. Your advice has reinforced my thinking on focusing on the quality of content and the level of a hub score and not on numbers.
Thanks for this information... I need my score to increase, I will put your advice to use!
I appreciate the straight-forward answers about the basice ideas of how to do well writing hubs. Thank you for sharing some of your secrets!
You really challenged me. I've been with HubPages about a week. At this stage I've been reading more than I've been writing. This community is amazing. I've rated you up and ranked you, also I've begun to bookmark your hubs so I can return and read more. Thanks for the effort and the post. Look forward to reading more in the future.
thx for your information :D
I really like straight talk so this hub was right up my alley. I apologize if I ask a questions I should know but I have yet to fully understand the hub score. I have been here 4 days. I wrote a hub the first day and when published it had a score of 50. I read in one hub that if you 'cook' a hub correctly it can start as a 90. How does this happen? I felt rather ashamed to start at 50. In the past 3 days it has risen to 72. Is that based soley on traffic? What should I expect from a hub?
Thank you for passing on wisdom to those who do care about content and their scores! This helps a lot. Thank you! Good teaching.
I am new, and I cannot stop reading your hubs, and I actually learned so much from this one that I am happy that I learned in the beginning... I had no idea of the effect of the low hubscores overall... this is really something everyone should be told about in the beginning, not for each person's sake only but for the overall quality of the site. you are filling a gap for sure.
Interesting points you have here Rebecca. Great to see you sharing your wisdom so newbies like me can have a chance at creating some good Hubs.

Dusty-- slow and steady at this rate, i would say if you get too active you'll find more hiccups than if you say do a hub a week and write comments like these at the same time.
