Fix it 303: Social Networking Sites and Hubpages
75You Need Social Networking Sites
I've written at length on my hubs about the social networking sites such as Stumble Upon and DIgg, and Face Book and what they can do for traffic. I'll be expanding on this one in this hub. There is a vital link to hubpages and social networking sites.
There are also many myths about social networking sites. So How should you fix you hub to make it better on a social networking site? This is the Internet and on the Internet we a social people want to connect with each other. The simple answer is: content content content and interactivity.
Now I am being a hopeful realist with this one, and saying that hubpages makes it easy to write a hub and then even easier to send it to social networking sites. Hubpages is a business and they know that people are here for many different reasons, so they offer a lot of choice.
Yes, you can make money and get traffic through social networking sites, and hubpages helps, but the results are up to you. Set a goal and stick with it, and you will see traffic and good comments on your hubs.
Share It: first you need to get an account with the following, FaceBook, Digg and Stumble Upon. This is pretty easy, they require your name and email address and you give it to them and set a password. Make sure you remember your password, or you won't see benefits to this.
Once that is done, scroll down on each of your hub and hit the share it button, from there fill in the correct category and what each will do it put a link (using your title) on their system. This is important for both traffic and money. A link avoids duplicate content, which isn't good, and also helps people see your title.
It's a business and this is, for many, the easy part. I prefer Stumble Upon since they have more choices as to a category and you can edit it at anytime. Still having several links to several social networking sites are important. You need to "share your work." you don't need to share each hub in one day, and get to know each site before getting too worried about traffic.
Content and title are king on any social networking site. As people will only see a link on your account, this means that the title needs to be good, or easy to remember and find. You also need other people to share your sites as well, so good content will help encourage them to do this.
This also helps search engines, since the more links you have with reputable sites the better your ranking. (This being google the rules can change in an instant) Still this will increase your flow of traffic to your hubs, and if you have back linked correctly between your hubs, this will give more traffic to all of your hubs.
If you think of Social Networking as A Business.. think "corporate social networking": Okay big title, but we all love fancy titles, and what do corporations do best? They get their name out to the world. You need to get your name out to the Internet community, essentially be everywhere. One way is to think of social networking as "corporate social networking" the corporation is you, and your business are the hubs and blogs and websites you have. now your corporation can have "free" publicity with help from another corporation: the "corporate social networking" sites.
You are a business, and this means that there are many aspects to it, and social networking is one, but still, you won't make money now or even make money today, but you will make money if you think of using the Web 2.0 in this way, it's not a hobby it's a business.
Even as a hobby thinking big will help you make a bit more money, still it's a bit more relaxing than a business. One of my followers said think corporation... well it got me thinking, maybe we need to think this big to see our hubs improve in terms of content and traffic and google.
If you do it, for fun, this will get traffic, i have found that for me personally traffic is from Stumble Upon, and there are many hubbers that I find on Stumble Upon, and just like on hubpages, you can "follow" others, this will increase your traffic and visibility on the social networking sites.
First you need to publish a good hub and have some links to it, and then share it. Link carefully as linking to a bad site is not what you need to do, so look for great hubs along with your own to link to. Okay big leap but think big and enjoy it!

How Does Social Networking Sites Help you in Terms of SEO and Google and making money: No you won't make money today you might make money now (a few cents at least) but the real benefits are in the long run.
To fix you hub to make it more appealing to social networking sites is simple, just put them out to these sites. This adds a link to your hub. If you do this and do this for at least ten other hubs that are not your own, people will notice.
Still a goal should be to get "noticed" by google, and with reputable social networking sites, the links you create between your hubs and others will help. I like to find other writers who have added a link to one of my hubs and Stumble Upon that hub. It is important as well to let people know you've done this.
There are good links and not so good links, so by using Stumble Upon or Digg correctly google will notice your sites. it's all about category on social networking sites, but like SEO the right category is everything.
Again making money is a slow process, and there are days when even social networking sites are slow, but this is a learning process.
Hubpages makes it Easy to use Social Networking Sites: Look at the Share It (above the comment section on a hub) section on your hub, you can put a link as a blog, you can add it to FaceBook, and Digg and Stumble Upon, and all other types of sites which add your hub as a link.
Take advantage of this. it is far easier to add a hub through hubapages than say manually doing the same on any of these social networking sites. again write excellent well written hubs, as people can and will like it or hit the I don't like it buttons.
The better quality your hub is the better traffic you'll get but the first step is up to you. You need to write content rich hubs. Comment back and comment on others hubs. Be Interactive. Spend the time improving older hubs and linking between them, and improve your profile. Also, be passionate and have fun. Social Networking Sites will improve your hubs, but also show you where you need to fix one or more.

Does social networking and seo still hold true?
Hi Rebecca:
I recently started reading your Hubs and like the way you write and how you respond to others. I am now following you. You're very kind and informative. I wish you all the best.
Thanks for your very useful information that you share with us. Happy to be with you in the network. . .
Rebecca, you always have such great hubs. This one also joins the ranks of bookmarked. I always find such useful advice and tips here.
Well written hub, however let me point out to the person who suggested Xomba is incorrect. Xomba links are all "Nofollow". The amount of traffic generated even after promoting a similar article that linked to my original on xomba (not a rewrite but an original also) has been very poor. With that plus it being nofollow has made me no longer use Xomba for anything.
rated up, bookmarked & useful, I joined stumble, but didn't find it so exciting. Your hub has enlightened me... Thanks for all your help & advise.
The best part of reading your hubs is that I can find out even more from your other hub links. Thanks for sharing such good information. I'm going to tell my friend to start following you too.
Hi Rebecca great hub but at the risk of sounding daft - I really don't know where to start on these networking sites. I've never used them. What do I write about? - surely I don't just put a link on to one of my hubs? - would you mind pointing me in the right direction.
Yes social networking is a must. Thanks for making that point.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever received when making a tough decision or business decision is to "eliminate emotion." Such advice resonates here when you pointed out to us to "think corporate." That really is a great way to look at it, Rebecca. Thanks for that and thanks for another helpful hub that should be read by both newbies and veterans alike. I guess we're no longer newbies, eh?
As always, very helpful. I've been spending a little more time lately on the usage of social networking sites like FB. Still not sure of the results. But I've been also working on building my base of other like folks on FB who write blogs and/or hubs and might be interested in my stuff and vice versa.
Thanks for another interesting and potentially interesting Hub.
Will set a goal to use Stumbleupon and Digg and see what happens.
Amazon have been a disappointment for us. We really tried on our own website and have accrued about £10 . We used to add capsules on our Hubs and eventually thought they were detracting from Google ads.
tweeted and stumbled great work as usual. Tam
Stumble -Upon is real fun and I think it is a do-follow, or not ?
Rebecca-as usual, you have marvelous, kingly content! :) Honestly, though, your advice is absolutely fabulous for a new writer in particular. I have accounts on both Facebook and StumbleUpon, yet find SU to be somewhat daunting.
I do believe I need to spend more time there-rather than on HP!
Thanks so much,
Laurel
Hi Rebecca! The content is definitely the King as it gets you repeat visitors. I also consider Stumble Upon as one of the best traffic generating sites. At least its worked for me. My best day was 2000 visits per day which was pretty consistent for about a week and then it dropped. I still feel revenue comes more from search engine clicks rather social networking sites but thats my experience. Great hub.
Thanks Rebecca. Fixing it is exactly what I want to do, along with taking the leap and enjoying it.
Thanks my friend. There have been a lot of SEO writers on here that condemn social networking sites because of the lack of PR. I, however, think that SW sites are just as good as backlinkers and as you said, the best way to attract traffic is content.
One thing though. When it comes to story writing, it doesnt matter how great the content, it doesnt necessarily mean that it will attract traffic - far from it. I havent really come up with a solution to this - any ideas?
Shaz x
You are such a wealth of knowledge. I'm now making a small bit of money thanks to your advice. Thank you for sharing.
Another GREAT Hub my friend - I for one really appreciate that you explain things in a way that mere tech challenged individuals such as myself can understand. *smile*
Thank you so much.
Thanks for the informative hub yet again. You are such a mine of useful information. Amber
Wonderful Hub with super info. I've not gotten into social networking sites so guess I'd better get busy! Thanks! Best, Sis
I use this method and it works. I am with other writing site like trinod.com for example and shows the places people click on my link to my article from so I can see which social networking site are clicking on my link. Its kind of cool.
Thanks Rebecca! For some reason it had never occurred to me to make sure that I link to other people's Hubpages through FB and not just my own. That should go a long way to maintaining the interest of my FB friends and appeal to a wider audience.
I've just started using Stumble Upon and I'm already seeing traffic to my Hubs from there.
Thanks Rebecca. Another kick up the backside for me. I really need to make more of an effort in organising my day. Mind you I never waste a minute but I just seem to be spending them in the wrong places. Thanks again.
I've found also Xomba to be pretty good. Usually the link to my hubs appears on Google from Xomba well before from HubPages, which is interesting. Great hub Rebecca, probably I should stumble it. :):):)
Rebecca, Another good hub. I am using those sites you list and I think it might be helping but too soon to tell for sure. I also haven't had luck with Amazon. Thanks.
Ah! My dearest Becca...
You, incredible you! You manage to keep these serials running, producing better answers every time and "getting away with murder" as far as popularity goes! I am impressed!
What can I say, dear? You`ve nailed it!
Thumbs up!
warmest regards and blessings to you,
Al
Thank you again Rebecca E,for another great hub, you never cease to amaze me. Thank you for sharing. Godspeed. creativeone59
I forgot that I subscribe to Digg and StumbleUpon. I think I need to visit there. Thanks for your hub.
Thanks for another fact-filled hub, Rebecca.
I haven't found time until now to use the social networking sites to any degree, but your info has motivated me to give them a try.
Thank you for another inspiring hub. I have got already Hub-addiction and then I read your hub and it is getting worse. hahaha
You made a very good point about not just posting your own content but others. I will start doing this next time I hit up my list for links. It makes a lot of sense.
On Twitter if all a persons does is self promote their web site and nothing else, I usually pass on following them back. I'm breaking my own rule on other sites. No more. Thanks Rebecca for another good hub.
Rebecca, I just sent Amazon a reply requesting their assistance. They're the one who is whining, so maybe they can provide ideas? As far as I know, all I can do is use those little Amazon Capsules. I generally stick them above the comments section, but lately, like I said, the last 2-3 may not have them at all to my frustration at seeing zero all the time? Why have the clutter when all you see is zero results?
Rebecca, I've found my Hubs climbing because of Facebook and StumbleUpon (which you suggested) but here's the rub. The Adsense thing is adding up a bit, but I received an email the other day from Amazon because I've yet to roll one sale. Not one! I try to use relevant items through the Amazon capsule, but still nothing. The Amazon people are whining, but what am I supposed to do? I may or may not have left them out on the last 2-3 hubs and that's just because I've grown disgruntled at going to the Amazon connect and seeing I have absolutely nothing. Ideas?
I didn´t know much about social networking. I´ll definitely try this out but I don´t think I understand how Facebook really functions in this case? I have a FB account only to interact with my real friends and I have only a few of them. Most of my friends who have hundreds of ´´friends´´ play online games and I am really not up to it. Hopefully you´ll write more about this (we need traffic there too, right?) Thanks! Hub bookmarked and rated up!
