Google AdSense and Analytics: Bouncing around with Numbers
70Google AdSense and Google Analytics
Google AdSense Affiliate Program is a confusing place to be, but there is help Google Analytics. Now a lot of people on hubpages use analytics-- or the stats of a hub. Still the question is how do you know what is a good bounce rate. Now, this is about a bit of adding to your business and a bit of making better money. Still, the question did catch my eye, since they asked about Google AdSense and bounce rate...
Now, they are asking about Google AdSense, but what I think they are really wondering is Google Analytics-- which is tied into the Google programs ( which includes Google AdWords). So since this is a business and you want to make money you will need to know what and where and who is coming and more importantly who is staying. Traffic is a beautiful thing. You just need to know where to focus on business.
Yes the Internet is a place where people will come and then leave but you need to think how to make them stay on you hub long and longer and long enough that they will do something, either click on an ad or click on a link or comment or anything really.

Google Analytics
Why should I care about Google Analytics?? It's not like it makes me money! Well this is a business and you frankly need to know who, what, when and how people are coming. While hubpages is a great beginning, you will not be able to tell where people came and why they left a particular hub. Using the two together (Google Analytics and Hubpages Statistics) you can help improve your hubs.
In this way, you can focus on how to improve your hubs over all and create a network of hubs which get a lot more traffic and people will stay for a lot longer. Analytics helps by telling you three main important facts: time online, page views and bounce rate. All three, in my view are vital to having a readership and of course making money with both Google AdSense and other affiliate programs.
No, you are correct, Analytics alone will not make you money, but by analysing the information that analytics will give you, will boost your writing and your content and your focus and improve your business and your bottom line-- the money you make.
This is a business and when you think of how to make your bottom line better you can also indirectly improve your hubs and also know where people come from... yes, Google Analytics tells you where on their dashboard.
In other words what you are looking for from Google Analytics is similar to keyword research with Google AdWords where you work with information to write or improve on your blogs and websites to make money online.
So, what is the most important thing to look at?: If you are serious about making money you need to know how long people stay, or better yet the bounce rate. Now, basically a bounce is when people go on and leave shortly afterwards.
The higher the bounce rate the less chance you will have to make money. Now for some, they will look upon something such as a bounce rate and go, big deal I still make money. Yes, you can but let's look at an example shall we?
Say your bounce rate is at 70% (which by the way is NOT good at all) now, this means that for 70% of people who came and looked at your hub or your work, they left within 10 seconds or less and they also did not go to another page (in this case a link you provided on your hub). This means something big for your business. Now, there is a formula for bounce rate, but for the most part a bounce is when people do not use your site to go to another page. You want them to be able to do something on your hub. More importantly however, is that these potential readers do not find your work of value to stay long enough. They left and did not click on an ad or anything else.
So, how can you fix a bounce rate? Give them something to read and also to do. Content is a must. So are the links between your hubs which you provide your readers. Polls or links that are interrelated to your hub are vital. Most of all is the content must be good and of value and of course original.
So that is great but what else can Google Analytics andother things like it do for me? I mean I really do not care about bounce rate. Good point, some sites do not need to worry about bounce rate but for the most part, we need to worry about other things. These can be found on the dashboard on your Google Analytics. (You need to sign up and hubpages has the information on how to do this for hubpages.)
In no particular order this is some of the information that Google Analytics gives a writer, and someone who wants to improve their business with. Above is a video about the dashboard on Google Analytics, which has been invaluable information to me and it has helped my business grow faster and stronger and yes has helped me make money.
Time on Site: This is very basic but it will tell you that if you get say 100 visitors and on average they stay for 30 seconds, what does that mean for your business? On the other hand if they stay for 1 minute and 30 seconds and you are not making money, what does that mean for your business?
Visitors and Page views: These two numbers to me work together, you can say have 10 visitors, and 10 pages views, but that is not good, then again you can have 10 visitors and 20 page views, which is really good. The point for your business is that you know how many people will go to something else of yours.
New Visits: Equally important, The more new visits the less likely that you are getting return people, and you want return readers. Yes, that is important to a solid foundation of people who will read your hubs and will of course politely tell you when you make mistakes.
Now there is more to the dashboard, but these to me, are the most important parts. Of course, my focus is on hubpages, but this works for all websites, and I believe most people once they have figured out all of the stats for analytics, and work to improve them do see an improvement in the money they get from Google AdSense and other sources.
I think I'll try it and see how it works...
See results without votingNow For the Last Words-- This Google Analytics is great for me. I began to use it a long time ago and it has improved my Google AdSense earnings. This has happened in three ways, one I can tell where my readers are coming from and it does tell me who comes from search engines and other sources, but it also tells me where I can improve. Two, it shows me which hubs or blog posts are getting the most visitors which helps me focus better on what works. Three it has improved the length of stay that people have on my hubs.
I'll admit right now, I didn't have such great presentation for my hubs when I first began and that caused my bounce rates to be high, but I also tried many different methods of improving my hubs, and improving the presentation and content. I still make mistakes, but I am more confident.
For those who really are serious about making money and being passionate and havingfun with their business, I have found that by using Google Analytics, my Amazon and my Google AdSense has improved a lot more since I can focus on what works and fix what does not work. So it does go beyond just Google AdSense as you can use it to improve your earnings on amazon and eBay.
It does take time, but with any successful business more knowledge will help you increase your profits and get you to where you want to go.
To your success.

Thanks, Rebecca, for reminding us about the value of Google Analytics.
You took a simple subject and obscured it in many, many words.
I find that looking at both my hubpage analytics and google analytic s see what kind of content readers best respond to. It allows me to be a better writer.
Well done on such a great hubpage!
Digging deep into the stats can be fun to write other things around existing hubpages and webpages and since starting a backlink campaign a few days ago I've increased my earnings and lowering some of my bounce rates on a couple of focused hubpage promotions.
Jolly good!
Thank you for going deep into this since I am new to making money online. Google Analytics was confusing to me but this hub has giving me a great crash course on what to look for. Thanks
Shane

Great info, Rebecca! I looked into Google Analytics awhile back but never completed the sign up. Looks like it's time to finally check it out. It sounds like it would be really useful, and it was helpful to read your hub and discover what information Google Analytics can provide. Thanks :)
Just yesterday I began looking into Analytics, honestly! I am having trouble finding my tracking code but will persevere. Good to see you, Rebecca.

Hi Rebecca. I'm just starting to scratch the surface of how useful analytics is. Was concerned my new blog was not attracting much traffic until I used the 'benchmarking' feature and found it is doing way better than average for a site of it's size! You can also use that feature to analyze how well your hubs are doing. There is clearly much more to analytics than I am aware of. More hubs in this area would be gratefully recieved!
I love analytics...Its the first thing I check every morning.
Wow! Thank you for this highly informative hub Rebecca! I should pay more attention to Google Analytics. Thank you very much!
God bless!
I have used Google Analytics for awhile, but it took some time to determine how to use it well. The numbers are overwhelming at first, but then what you're being told becomes more clear and it is a real help.
Thanks for another great insight into writing online as a business. You are the master.
Mike
rated up & useful! thanks Rebecca E, always enjoy your insight and wisdom...
Thanks rebecca. I did mean Google Analytics, and I understand the lowere the better. Mine has been varying between 40 and 50 percent, so I guees that is ok. I'm still trying to learn traffic. I still have a lot to learn and need to edit several of my hubs. I'll keep hubbing along and thanks for the hub.
Hi Rebecca - I check Google Analytics daily. It helps to know which Hubs are doing well and where your traffic is coming from. This is a very helpful Hub.
