A Fine Hubs 101: What Is Too Much or Not Enough to Help Your Online Writing
72Make money with your Fine Hub
This is a very simple thing for people who write on hubpages, your hub needs to be of the correct length and follow the correct rules. Most of the time the ones who have success on hubpages, are the ones who write, and write well, and then go back and fix the problems on their hubs. Of course making money from these fine hubs, with some search engine traffic is great as well.
Some Focus on making money online, and more money , and then try to sell something in hopes that it is a quick way to make some cash. Sorry but no, it's not, it can be done and possibly has been done, but still it takes time. The hubs they write also need to be of good quality to get the search engine traffic or SEO goals they want.
What it boils down to is this: Either Too Much Or Not Enough. There are about five or six big mistakes that new (and not so new hub writers called make) but they all boil down to too much or not enough.
Writing Only 1 Hub.... Writing 100 hubs in 100 Days
Mistake #1: Writing Hubs...
Too Much: Many people think if they write one hub and it's great then if they write another hub fast it will be better, so I often see in my daily email from hubapges that a hubber has published 2 or 3 hubs that day. They usually aren't well written, for the most part, and people generally don't look at three or four hubs published by the same author in one day.
Not Enough: The opposite is true writing only one hub and expecting miracles. That didn't happen for me or for any other people. It seems for most there is a special number from about 30-100 hubs that make the difference to them, when the traffic from each hub makes people go and see their other work.
The reality for writing hubs is this: one or two hubs every couple of days, well written with good content, and good keywords, and a bit of work with SEO to get the search engine traffic. Write them and publish them once you are confident of the writing.

Mistake #2: Not learning Basic interaction...
Too Much: Some people will go to the forums, get lost in them and never publish many hubs, others will comment on others hubs, and comment and comment some more, and really show that they didn't read it or have burnout. Yes it is a way to link to your profile, and thereby getting some traffic and more links and more money, but it's not a great idea. See, most will comment back on insightful comments, and try to look at your post, but if you comment say on all their hubs, then it will look like spam, and this is not so good.
Not Enough: This One is easy, writing hubs, and then letting them be, no writing back on comments, other than to approve them, no working and fixing them up, even if they need it, just forgetting about a hub and letting it be. Traffic will come and go, and if you go to google AdWords and do a keyword search it can show you what you stand to lose for not interacting. So even if you answer the comments of other in one comment or two it show you are at least trying to interact with the comment and people on your published hubs.
Mistake #3: All about SEO/ Google/ Money... but you are still asking questions (about said topic) on the forums
Too Much: This isn't a big one as it may seem, since most people will flag a hub, if it looks like the person who wrote it talks about something they don't know about. So doing too many hubs with "I know everything about SEO and hubpages and Google and Blogging" and then asking the very question you answered on hubs, well that a bit much isn't it?
Not Enough: If you are asking questions and learning and still asking the same questions, and still learning there is a point when people on the forums and on the answers section will not answer, or will get mad, and maybe you should write a hub on what you know. See you aren't doing enough to help others if you know things but don't share it for the benefit of others. There are a lot of people on hubpages who could use this knowledge to help them on SEO or money or Google AdWords or AdSense.
Content Keywords, Traffic and AdSense
Mistake #4 Writing: Content and Keywords.. and Google AdSense and SEO.. and anything else...
Too Much: You publish hub after hub after hub and while you get the initial spike of visitors, there isn't a stream of them coming or worst yet, staying for a while. Many hubs start with comments and then if you are smart you'll find the content below the comments. or it's all pictures-- not that I have anything against this, but face it content is important.
Or they focus on high paying keywords. The writer went to Google AdWords keyword tool did a search found words that cost a lot and put them as tags. Doesn't work, a tag will help the search engines find you, but doesn't give you clicks, or good ones. Yes, you need to focus on content and keywords but that won't help much if traffic doesn't come.
Not Enough: The reverse is true, if you don't take a look at google and SEO and content and keywords at least a little bit you'll be wondering why either people come and leave without comments, or they don't come at all. ISmply because they can't find you!
Content will keep them there, and keywords will bring them from the search engines, and this might bring some money for you. Write, write well and a bit of focus on SEO or keywords and google will do the rest to get a bit of traffic each day.
When one talks about diversification, what they are talking about is the art of getting many traffic sources. There is no such thing as making money with one source of traffic. As many know now, rules change. Tehy are also talking about online publishing in many different online writing sites.
Which Common Mistake Gets You?
See results without votingTraffic: Linking is Key
Mistake #5: Linking
Too Much: Hubpages in their FAQ's do tell you that you can link on your hubs, to certain sites, such as wikipedia or sites that you don't have a vested interest in as often as you want, but you can also link to other people's hubs, but with your blog or website or hub only twice in the hub you are writing. Think that isn't hard? Think again. If you have only to links on your hubs, and there are two of them only, well that too much, because you are still over-promoting your hubs. So add a couple more links, from other sites such as someone else's hub or from wikipedia.
Not Enough: Links are important, but you should use your profile to show links to some of your hubs, but also try to link properly to your hubs, so that each one has at least a link to it. It takes time, but the problem is that it takes time, and you need to go back and fix some hubs. If you don't have any links people will need to do footwork of their own-- most won't. So link where you can such as your blog or email signature with a couple of your hubs. You can link and do as many as your like on your own blog and website, and that is encouraged.
Yes, mistakes happen but these are five of the more common ones I've seen, this might of course improve your hubs, but also improve your standing in google and make a bit more money. So, it helps to go back and fix your hubs, and also to check your keywords and do some research. Have fun and here is to improvement!

OMG! :D Thanx Rebecca for that Hub. I didn't realize of many aspects of hubbing. That should help me :)
Well,This is great but you can continue adding to that
Thanks for this great information, Rebecca. I'm a blogger for an online magazine, and my editor often adjust my format so I get picked up by Google, but with Hubpages I am exploring doing this on my own and getting the format down. Your article is helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I confess, as an essayist, I tend to have issues following the format...
Thanks again!
Lael
great article :)
Thanks for the info, I agree with writing good articles not just so many. But I learned from you about links, here in hubpages and other sites I only put one or two links, I'm going to follow your advice.
Hi Rebecca E,
I have read several of your articles dealing with HubPages and how it works. I am 78 years old and retired and just recently found HubPages. I did not grow up with a computer so my computer skills are limited. I must say that reading your hubs has been a great help to me. I will continue to review your hubs for more ideas. Rebecca, many thanks for the time you give in helping dummies like me.
Great hub Rebecca, I dont worry about making money. its important to me to make a difference.
have a great day... :)
Thanks Rebecca...I am so new at this, there is so much that I dont understand about the scoring etc..what does the number in the avatar mean? Yours is 99...
I just dont know anything yet...I publish hubs, proberly not as many as I should, I seem to have people coming and going...I'm not very good at writing, I just try and do the best I can...but, I want to know how to keep people coming back and reading more...like I said, I just dont know, maybe some of my hubs are just too long? or too short??
dont know....
As was stated on one of the comments, I, too, write because I love it, but a bit of money would help. I actually began writing for money, but now I love it, (redundant statement, I know). Anyway thanks for writing this helpful hub.
Great advice. I will think of you as I write.
These are good reminders as I am not the greatest writer but I do try and modify the hubs after they are published...I continue to improve my hubs so this advise is well received...thanks
i think you are so right about that but too much is never enough
Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the wonderful advice, as usual. Have a wonderful day
There is so much to learn - I still need to work on the SEO thing. Not sure if I'm totally understanding how it works. I have joined shetoldme for backlinks and I really enjoy it - I find it way better than stumbleupon. Thanks for such great advice!
Hi Rebecca. I agree with what you wrote here and thanks for sharing this. I often spend time in the forums in between writing hubs and I often see too much expectations in earning from HP when they only have a few hubs to show. Plus too much interaction, well, how much really is too much?
hi rebecca
i got to know about this hub today only, and finding it difficult to understand the concept. through your article i am almost clear with the way i should proceed.
thanks a lot

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I also just visited your blogs and enjoyed them as well.
I really enjoy your hubs and have learned so much. My biggest mistake is number 2, I don't visit the forum often, because i find most of the inquires boring, silly, just plain vicious and outdated. I will take you advice, you've not steered me wrong once.
I agree with Rebecca completely. I try to do 1-2 articles a week. Sometimes when I get behind, I rush through writing to try and catch up to my goals. I wind up turning out junk when I do this. Now I'm thinking about deleting some of my junk articles but I hate to lose the comments.
I am new to hp and i learn so many this from yours hub
Thank you, you aways write very good informative information that we all can use. thank you for sharing it. Godspeed. creativeone59
Thank you for sharing what you've learned about Being successful with Hubpages. I'm still finding my way around and appreciate your advice.
Very informative. As someone who has not published his first hub yet, I appreciate.
I agree with almost everything you say in this hub Rebecca, but I must disagree on a few points. I often publish several hubs in one day. All quality hubs that earn me money. I don't see why this is impossible, in fact I know the opposite is true.
Content is king on hubpages, but second is quantity of hubs. I see no need to slow down on the number of hubs I publish. I have been known to write 7 or 8 articles a day. I also write for other websites as well.
The key is to write quality articles, with good keywords and then backlink on sites like digg, stumbleupon, reditt, etc.
Keep up the good work, Rebecca. I enjoy your hubs. I appreciate that you try and help others. It is refreshing.
Let me add a small bit of advice. You should spellcheck your hubs. I notice you often write teh instead of the. You must be a fast typist, but spellcheck would help you catch these mistakes!
I agree totally Rebecca. I've tried to do the thing where I write two or three articles in a day, but they usually turn out to be junk; I try not to publish junk. Two articles in a week is plenty for me (three at the most).
Also, I recently reached the 30 hubs stage and have definitely noticed a different in my Adsense clicks and Amazon sales (just made a few sells last week). Great Hub!
I don't write enough yet and don't have enough related hubs. Will work on that and read the FAQs to understand the linking rules more. Have found your hubs very helpful. Thanks
For me, I'm not here to make money - although that would be nice - I'm here to interact with other writers. I love to write and this is a place where you can do that. I only write about things that I know well and hope that it's informative and sometimes funny. As writers, we all want to be well received - our egos demand it. If you're on here just to make money, I don't see how you can make that work - unless you're really, really good. And some of us are pretty good at getting the word out and being entertaining and informative. And it's not easy for most of us. You have to write here because you want to, and the rest will come if you are interesting. That's my take on the whole thing, and so far, I'm not really too well received here. But I will not change what I do here. I will continue to write about things that I know and if nobody reads them, well, too bad for me. But, know this; I enjoy the writing and will continue to do so...
Rebecca,
I did ask a general question to the Hub Pages community recently about how much time a person spends writing and tweaking their hub, but no one responded; however, this hub answers that question for me. Thanks. I guess I am a Hubber who falls into the Mistake #1 of not writing enough. I do comment on other Hubs with what I think are thoughtful responses, but I receive few comments, although it some that a I have a few readers. I did manage to break out of Hub Pages as a traffic source which pleased me.
Thanks
Thanks for this Rebecca. It caused me to go back and read the FAQ's. Even then I find I am a little bit puzzled. I frequently link within a single hub to other hubs of mine because it is relevant to what I am writing about. These will be links to several different hubs...not the same one. It is not an attempt at being over promotional but to make a point or points. What do you think? Am I breaking any rules?
I'm slowly working on getting to my "magic number." In my case I think it sort of hurts that I signed up for HubPages 14 months ago, and then never published anything on it. Makes my hub numbers look sparse (as they are). I know I was interested, that's why I signed up. But was probably adverse to change and therefore simply kept on writing on another site I was using. I've also read about having content in two places and so I'm not using content from the old site—though if I do I'll be sure to take the old articles down.
In any event, great stuff.
Great hub Rebecca. You always give good advices. Having read some hubs I agree with you. After a while it becomes easier to understand who's writing for money, a passage on links usually clarifies, if someone talks about a software and there is a referral link on the hub than it's written for money. And some top hubbers do this. I have doubts too how is it possible to publish two or three hubs a day with original content and quality. I have difficulties with just one. :(
As regards interaction I'm not really into the forum, as I prefer to read hubs and comment on them. And I've seen that many top hubbers do not bother to answer comments, but it might be that they are just too occupied. Or already arrived. As regards me I try to answer all comments as soon as possible, if someone is so nice to drop a comment why should I be impolite and don't bother? But I'm not a top gun. The same applies to followers or fans: my rule for that is to follow or fan hubbers that I think write well and can teach me something; then if after a while I receive no visit or answer I quit following. This for two reasons: first there are so many hubs to read that I must make a choice on them, second that since there are some common contents like AdSense, earning money and so on I prefer to give traffic to those hubbers who take the time to answer to their followers and interact with them. I don't like much people who think they are too high for mixing with newbies. Since traffic is a very important thing I prefer to give it to those hubbers who deserve it, in my opinion of course.
Since I am still feeling my way about I have learned a lot in your well written hub. Thank you
Rebecca E-
Helpful as always; a question for you-when you say 30-100 is the 'magic number',do you mean visitors per hub or all hubs?
Thank you Rebecca E; you have certainly pointed out the foibles that most of us have in writing and commenting and questioning hubs.
Rebecca, I'm in an interesting position. First, let me tell you I learned from this Hub. I will come back to it as I write more. I seem to fall into that 2-3 every few days bracket you speak of, though here's the thing. The content of my Hubs is not what one commonly sees in that while it is of a Chrisitian flavor, it's not loaded down with scriptural verse. Instead, the Lord gives me a vision. It might have the foundation of a few verses or a small passage, though I won't jam it all in the Hub. Starts looking like a theological nightmare nobody feels like wading through.
My position is that I can't arbitrarily sit and write "just because I should have X number of Hubs within a given time period." I might go maybe 2-3 days and then I'll get hit with a vision at around 2-3AM and I'll already know where in the Bible to seek my foundational scripture.
Does this make me different than others? My content appears to read different than other Christian Hubs, which is why I ask. Money might be nice, but if you look, I have Adsense up there, though even though I do have a hooked up Amazon thing, I rarely use it. Maybe I should. To be honest, I'm a bitt wary about some of these "make money on hub pages" stories. Maybe I'm just not there yet. I can't even find where any chart is to tell me how much if anything I've made on Google or Amazon, so I really don't have a clue.
I thought it didn't matter what you did to try and fix your hubs after they were published...doesn't matter anyway I am always going back and tweaking the ones I have written anyway LOL. I am still on the learning curve anyhow. Thanks and as always great easy to follow advice.
Hello , you are so correct. I enjoyed the message I really read and absorbed. It is hard at least for me, I am working on for the new year additional learning receptiveness.
I am starting to get the hang of this but know that I can still improve upon in certain areas, especially with backlinking. Xomba, Helium, and some other social networking/blogging sites have come to my attention and so want to write for those other places to increase my traffic here to HP! Thanks as always, Rebecca. I hope you had a wonderful New Year's!

Your aricle has a lot of good advice. Thanks.
