I Earn on HubPages... Does that Mean Make Money??

I earn on hubpages. I love that comment, really I do, but this is someting that is often taken out of context. I can mean I earn "a lot" of money on hubpages. Or, I earn a lot of traffic, or a lot of links. Really what do I earn on hubpages? (See earning is a very "general" term to me.) Do you mean earning money? or earning a living or followers or what?

This is some thing that the request is asking us to answer, so I will try to answer it in many different ways to explain why we want to "earn" some thing from hubpages, both with our hubpages business and our other online businesses. See, we all want our work to be seen or to have a certain bit of success but at the same time we need to think both short term and long term.

Face it, anything we do is bound to earn us some thing... but what is that "some thing", and what does that "some thing" mean specifically to you?

Traffic is a "earning", but often this is called increasing traffic: How much traffic does your work get? Does it help you in anyway? By this, most people will talk about how much traffic they get in a day or how much traffic they get comes from search engines, or more specifically Google.

Yes, traffic is important, but to me it is how you earn that traffic, which become vital. There are many ways to increase traffic and far too many of them are done in a way that while it looks impressive, makes me wonder, why get traffic when it only gets you...

A way to say I can get massive traffic. This is not so great since most people want to get traffic which helps them promote their work and even if it takes them a long time, there are ways to build traffic without going "bad." Not only to your readers but to the "golden goose" (aka the search engines)

So, a good way to get traffic is to write good content and participate. Oh and learn.

Earning Money Online also known as Making Money Online: I would be remiss if I did not add this bit to my hubs. Yes everyone can earn money online, but the key to it is long term thinking. A bit of Google knowledge is also a must.  We often call this making money online.

See there are two things I believe in very strongly one is promotion of the correct sort, and the other is understanding Google AdSense. Yes, this is about making money, and earning it in a good way. Let me say this right now: If you try to cheat Google; Google will find out and you will lose in the end. So do not do anything that seems like cheating.

So to understand Google AdSense-- (how to make money), only 25% (on average) make a payout each month, so it is very much a 20/80 rule in play here, which I think that if you want to promote your work, promote your top 20% of your traffic and money earners.

That way you will earn money and get traffic. Still there is some other ways to "earn" on Hubpages.

You can Earn Followers; Some lucky hub writers have over a thousand followers, and that is some thing you earn with (in my mind) great evergreen content and some great writing, which is useful and helpful and stands the test of time.

See, I am lucky I have followers, but this does not mean I make money or get a lot of traffic from my followers. In this case it is some thing I am grateful for, as my followers make my hubs interesting and informative far beyond what I can do otherwise.

Followers are a great thing,t hey do help make traffic and can help you by building links to your work, but for the most, followers are some what of a mark of people liking your work.  So, try to make sure that they are happy, or they can leave.

The last one is a bit harder to "earn" and that is links. I think out of all of them linking is by far the most complex and frustrating for anyone who has been on hubpages a while. For clarity sake, a link "earned' is when some one puts out a hub or a link to social networking site for your hub.

This is my definition of earned links. Which is why you need to make you content valuable or people will not want to link to your hub or to your website or whatever you want to promote. Now, do not over promote, but again some promotion never hurt a hub. Still, if you have a few hub writers who link to your hub or some one links your hub to their blog, this means you are doing something right.

So, if you go to hubmetrics you can find a little stat called "links" the more stars the better the hub is at gathering people to it. Aim for at least four stars on your top 20% of your best hubs. The links, with really great content, will come over time, but you need to also make the effort.

The last word: Content is the one thing that will help you earn whatever you might happen to want to earn on hubpages. NO content, NO traffic, money or link or followers. Simple, this means that you need to write hubs with quality that people will want to read and will want to link to and will want to recommend to others.

Really it is your business, and if you want to earn money, then you need to build up your traffic and links and your hubs so quality of a hub matters. This does mean work, there is no way around it. Work is a part of building your business and increasing passive income over time.  Being willing to change is also a part of "earning"-- by this you will earn more followers or money or traffic by working on a new topic once and a while.
