I Give Up!: Ten Reasons Why You Shouldn't On Hubpages If You Have Some Fine Hubs -- OR Don't Delete An Account
83I Give Up! So often these are the words other hubbers hear just before a person leave hubpages, and closes their account. There is a loss, see they lose the money they would have made on their published hubs, this is a bit of a business so statistics count, but still.
In this case what about passive income? You know the money you could have been making with the hubs you has published a long time ago?
What about followers? You'll lose them and a bit of trust you've developed. To make money or to get traffic you need to build your relationships with people and simply leaving is not a great business option. The Trust of many members of this community.. and potentially other communities.
What about traffic?
What else? Can you tell me?
So, before you yell: I Give Up! Here are Ten Reasons Not to.
Money : Stay on hubpages long enough and you'll make money. Like anything we do that is worth it, and that needs some care, hubs written by you need care and dedication to make money. It is easier to delete a hub than to delete your account.
Publishing hubs is easy and then if you have evergreen content you will find the search engines will find you, except it takes time, which is something we all have. Look, you aren't going to make millions writing on hubpages, but when you do give it time, and energy you will make money. Delete your account and you lose that potential
Followers: You'll notice that over time you have got a good following, and this means a good chance to get people to come and read your hubs. You delete that account, you lose those followers and need to start all over again.
So delete your account, you lose followers and potential traffic and comments and your work that you've done for however long you've been writing on hubpages. For example you could argue this: I've been on hubpages for 5-7 months and I have only 30 followers and a few hubs. So why shouldn't I delete my account?
Well, that acually pretty good, 30 followers, and you've only just begun. If you were to write a few more hubs you'll get some more followers, and even more money potential.

Passive Income: So, you wrote a hub about say writing or sleeping, and you've got about 10 people come to see it and say about 50 cents in income from said hub. Now actually that not bad, after all you've only got 10 people who have come to look at your hub. I've got one of them clicking on an ad, not bad!
This hub will remain for a long time, and if you link it to your blogs and websites will get a backlink, and this makes it more valuable to google and other search engines. Do some backlinks on your blogs to your hubs and see how that helps.
Comments and Interaction: Okay I know one of the reasons you want to leave is that you're getting no comments on your hubs, but ask yourself this? Do you respond to comments? Do you go to other people's hubs and comment? Are you interactive on your hubs? Do you have links and polls and all these other things?
If the answer is yes, you are on the right track to making money, and this isn't the time to yell I give up! Beyond the fact that should you delete your account you lose all the comments you've made and also all the comments others have made, well starting over isn't so great.
You Can get help: Go to the forums and go and look at other hubs and write to the hubber who wrote that help. If you ask politely, and with some respect most people will take the time to respond and help you out. Of course this means you shouldn't overuse it, but you can get help, and often this goes to the next thing...
Hubs:Yes there is a small button called edit, I use it often, and it's helped me improve my writing and make more money. You can hit the edit button sooner and with more ease than even the delete or the big event of leaving hubpages. You can also go and look at your stats and learn from them.
Under stats there is this tab called hubmetrics and one of them can tell you what sort of money potential you can get from a hub, by changing keywords and imporving your hub, money and traffic will come.
I Give Up? No because I'll miss this
See results without votingTime: This one is a biggie how long did it take to get the money you have already got from hubpages? How long did it take to get the fans you got? How long did it take to get the respect of the community and the interaction on hubs? what about forums? How much time did it take? Now, do you think this can be recreated?
Some might say yes, but I liken it to lighting in a bottle, you won't quite get it back. You might get the fans and the money and all the other things, but when you actually think about it, you are simply doubling your time to make what you could have made before leaving.
Reputation: Want to lose that? well if you delete your account you will. If I can't find a person who has followed me for a while and then no longer exists, well if they come back, do I follow them again?
It's all a matter of trust. If you lieave you lose that trust with your followers, who might not come back, and you will find that people are forgiving to an extent, but as dohn121 put it, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!
Potential Copyrights: See when you develop a hub, it's yours and if someone decides to cut and paste shall we say, you can contact the admin of the site and complain, you've got the dates in your favor, and you are the author they aren't, so you won't be able to prove anything after deleting your account. This also gives money to the person who stole your ideas.
So, then, you've lost money and there isn't a thing you can do about it. Yes, on hubpages there is a way to check where your traffic is coming from, and via this way you can actually find out where people are copying your work.
Google AdSense, Amazon, and eBay Revenues: Yes I know I mentioned money, but people don't really see where things go until it's too late, your blog or website might have traffic which is coming via your hubs, and this might give you a potential for multiple stream of traffic and revenue. If your hubs are getting traffic and you are getting more money from say amazon or AdSense, is it worth the risk? You can edit a hub or delete a hub or anything, but don't delete your accounts.
There you have it, ten reasons why you don't want to say I give up. Believe me, there are times when you might want to and there are times when it's might seem like a good idea... but it isn't you have time and energy given to hubpages and at some point you will be rewarded, so wait for a while longer, and things will look up. Believe me they will look better by staying.

Good pep talk with lots of pointers! Not everything goes our way all the time and hub pages is not different. There are good days and bad but the more you put in the more you get out!
Very well written. Inspirational too. Thanks for sharing it. Voted up and useful!
Hi there Rebecca, found another one (howbeit an older hub) that is still useful and relevant today. I was going to add that writing "evergreen" articles helps with the income over time. But you are living proof!
Nice work.
I recently read a book about quitting or rather, not quitting. It was insightful, it reminded me that "winners never quit" is an untrue saying ... winner DO quit, the trick is to best determine when to quit and what to quit. Quit if you're in an abusive relationship; quit if you're in a dead-end job. Don't quit on HubPages, you're just in what the author (Seth Godin) calls "The Dip", the slog between the enthusiasm of the beginning and the exhileration of the conquest. The meat in the sandwich is the "dip". I'm still in the happy beginning (2 hubs; 4 blogs). I'll look back to your site for encouragement when I do hit "the dip".
Glad you wrote this about not giving up. There really isn't a reason to -- unless you're compromising something by being on here. But I feel like I'm really beginning to learn about improving my titles, etc., even after a few years and I expect to make great strides this year.
Grateful for your encouraging Hub.
Thank you.
I've had a few weeks off due to illness but should be back by tomorrow. I have realized that it is important to keep up Hub writing because it helps me write with more focus and possibly with improvement.
I've been told not to worry too much about learning about how to make money from it all, though hopefully I'll have some young person who is a wiz at computers to help me get a handle on that soon.
Anyway, thanks for your Hub. I enjoyed it and shall vote up and bookmark for when I'm feeling even better and can concentrate properly.
Thanks for writing this hub, this is my second month and I was getting a little discouraged.
Wow, very informative. I am brand new to Hub Pages with only 2 hubs written and am enjoying it very much. I will keep these tips in mind so as not to get discouraged.
I'm not specifically saying hubpages, I'm saying the internet in general.
I've been at it for 10 years and lost money - not my thing... lol
At first, I wanted to give up, but I persevered and wrote a mix of deciduous and evergreen content and promoted my Hubs. Thanks for the uplifting information!
Thank goodness I havent wanted to give up yet because I am having too much fun so far. All the techical money making part of it is kind of confusion but I am trying to learn something from everyone. Enjoyed your hub.
I think you are like me who is struggling to make money by publishing. Anyway if you have more resources please do tell me.Thanks
You're right. Lately, I've been feeling so sad that nobody has come to read my hubs, but you've inspired me to keep writing!
I love reading your hubs, always full of great info.
You are a must read for all hubbers new to hubpages!
Great hub Rebecca; inspired me to keep going having only recently joined hub pages.
Excellent hub indeed!!!! After a considerable span of time, I came across such a wonderful hub. Technique of earning money is very informative and knowledgable. Thanks for providing such an impressive hub.
Great advice and well written. Your points made me realize what a "Newbie" I still am. Although I've never thought of quitting -- should that thought come to mind I'll refuse it! Best, Sis
Nicely put together. Thanks.
Great hub!Perfect timing as well.Thanks!
I'm not a quiter, but I'm known for taking long breaks, once in awhile, this was a great Hub, I chose Followers, and I like reviewing each reason why some do give up, one thing that caught my attention was your mention that HubPages does at some point give a few quaters here and there just for the traffic you draw, is that a fact. I've only been here 6 weeks, but have ponder on that one. Thanks again for all your hard work, was truly appreciated. Ed
This is true. Persistence pays off in the end.
Excellent hub Rebecca. I don't understand why people just unpublish everything, unless they have some place to start over or maybe already have a blog(s) that do well.
Commenting on other hubs that you like as a reader is important, it helps the writer know that the work they put into their hub is worth it!
I will stick with it for now since I am pretty new to hubpages. Hopefully I will get some good results soon.
Thanks for an encouraging Hub. We have never reached the point where one of us has said 'lets give up', but we have said, 'lets see what next week brings'. There is usually some encouragement.
i really appreciate ur openion..i am new in hubpages i enjoyed it as it is simple and better than many blog sites.we can make more effort and look at it as it is very intersting to say somthing usefull to others regrdless money first then money will come at the right time..thank u too much have agood day
Excellent hub! thanks!
Rebecca... you've done it again! Great read and positive. I really liked the advice on the copyright. Of course, it is proof that your article is yours! Brilliant and well thought out!
Thanks x
They say, do they not: 'Whn the going get tough - the tough get going...' Is this not true of Hubs and working the Net - or anything that takes time and sustained effort?
It is easy to give up, but these ten reasons kept me on hubpages. Thanks for great hub and as usually, interesting comments.
Great hub, I have had those feelings too, but I also know I have not written that many. So I will persevere on. Thanks.
Hy Rebecca! This is a great hub and dealing with a serious subject, a lot of people pack it in at some point for all kinds of reasons! I hope you never pack it in!!! We'd miss your great Hubs! Take care! : )
What a beautiful and inspiring hub Rebecca! I'm staying..that's for sure. :)
Good motivation to hang in there. Thanks, Rebecca.

trying to scare me? Thank goodness I read the rest of the hub otherwise....
Good points! I've never actually thought about deleting my Hubpages account, but if it ever crosses my mind (not likely), I'll remember this hub.
I am so happy to see my number of followers is increasing. This makes me happy. What makes me even happier is the chance to visit the brilliant Hubs I've read as I learn from each. Thank you so much and like RevLady, this is part of the ministry of Unchained Grace Ministries, LLC.
I wasn't really thinking about leaving :P but it was a good read with some useful points to think about in order to perform even better than I already am on here. Good going, another great hub!
As always, you have written a very useful, encouraging and interesting hub. I cannot imagine giving up unless after, say 3 years, you've made only $3.00. Cheers
Good hub, Rebecca, with lots of good information and suggestions. Thanks
Excellent hub. I am still fairly new and I had no idea that I had so much to learn. I started just for fun but would like to make some income and learning the ins and outs has been a real adventure. It's slowly getting better because of writers like you that explain what I need to learn.
Well, Becca...
I couldn`t have said it better myself!
What fellow hubbers(veterans, neophytes
and not so veterans)Must understand is
that persistence and perseverance are
important ingredients to ANYTHING you
want to accomplish in life. Giving up
equals surrender and surrender equals
failure. Plain and simple!
Great Hub! Thumbs up for you!
Warm regards,
Mystique1957
Another hub full of such useful information. Thanks
You're so right when you say that you probably cannot recreate, to the same extent, what you left behind in your "time" segment. To me, it's akin to that feeling you get (and I think we've all been there one time or another) when you click on PUBLISH (used to happen a lot at MySpace) and end up getting a screen that says "oops, there was a problem processing your request," only to hit the GO BACK button on your browser and be redirected to a blank blog page. You can, of course, rewrite the blog, and it may even turn out well. But it will never have the same flavor nor the passion it had when you first wrote it. So you lose something there.
In any event, I think that what should be the driving factor first and foremost for anyone who wishes to find success at this (and I could be wrong) is to simply write. Focus on that. Focus on the love of writing and focus on writing well and writing content that people will want to read. If you focus on that, I think, there's a strong possibility that people will not only come in to read what you have to say, but will be intrigued enough to come back and hear what else you have to say.
If the focus is only on the money, I just think something might be missed. And if its the lack of money that is the motivating factor for leaving the community, then you'll surely miss something, including the money.
As well, it IS sort of like a business in a sense. And treating it that way, too, I think is helpful. You're followers and fans are essentially your customers. And as such you have to spend some time with them to keep them coming back. Staying active in the community and commenting and participating forums has, in my eyes, IN ANY CASE, great benefits aside from simply keeping in touch and staying in the light. You can actually find the inspiration for another hub out of it. It's part of the reason I call myself Springboard. I read, I think, I become engaged, and it (like a springboard) catapults me into writing on the topic.
Another excellent hub, BTW.
Good information on Adsense and Amazon,I won't delete my accounts unless they blocked me for a reason
Great information, I didn't know what that hubmetrics was all about and now I am better informed. Thanks for a great and interesting read.
Yes you are a rock star! It made me nervous, just like dohn121
until I read on! You pack quite a punch of information into just one hub and I thank you.
Thank you and I agree with all you said and I particularly noted and appreciated the kind way you said it.
For me, Hubpages is an extension of my ministry and a venue to connect with God's people from all over the world. What a magnificent gift!!! Again, thank you.
Blessings to you!!
Forever His,
You can't make money if google disables your account.
Anyhow sorry for that...I am still here and still writing I am working at it every day to improve. It's really not about the money the Google thing has had me a little irritated because there aren't many other sites that don't pay through google. Maybe I should write a hub about it.
You are truly one of my faves and I am glad you are here. Thank you for all your tips. I book mark pretty much all of them for reference.
Rebecca, I have come to rely on you as a source of inspiration and encouragement. Just when I feel like throwing up my hands because this feels like a waste of time, you publish one of your gems... I appreciate your no-nonsense style and your pragmatism.
Thank you. Valid points made in an interesting way. Enjoyed it.
I only can say I love writing on hub. I have been on other sides and I am not happy at all. One thing I would like to know how do I find out, in other words which button to press and where to find it, if somebody stole my articles? Another one is you mentioned 'edit' button where can I find it? Thank you for your more than informative hub.
I agree with Mike, very good hub Rebecca. I like a lot my followers, at the end they are the reason why I go on writing, and the feedback received is priceless. But you made a very good point on copyright, I didn't think about that.
Thanks for keeping always good stuff to light.
Rebecca,
I believe I've mentioned on one or more comments that I am truly grateful for every single comment, fanmail and follower.
Quite honestly, yes, it is a trust issue in that when people sign up as a follower, they are in effect (dare I say it) disciples of that writer. As they see their leader maintain through the storms and continue on, that leader continues to instill in them a trust factor. "Yes, I will be here tomorrow, the next day, etc.)" Like a rock.
People flock to stability and steer clear of quitters. So, money aside, a quitter on HubPages is more than likely a quitter in other facets of their life as well.
Me? I'm in here to carry out this aspect of the vision God gave me. It is why I may not publish in the high numbers as opposed to publishing with a purpose on certain topics within my chosen category. When God gives me a vision, I do the research and then go through the requisite steps to publish it. It may be 2-3 times a week, two hubs a day, whatever. In short, it's not up to me.
Money would be nice and when it occurs it's going straight into our Homeless Ministry for veterans and nonveterans.
Our direct link with Holy Truth Temple of Deliverance is what keeps a roof over the heads of our previously homeless veterans and nonvets.
Thank you for this Rebecca and just for the record, I wasn't concerned when I saw the title to this Hub. I knew you weren't a quitter from the beginning.
This was the most level-headed thinking about writing hubs that I've seen in a long time. It seems so much is made of making money quickly, and very little is written about what you lose by giving up. Thanks so VERY much for this down-to-earth article.
me too rebecca made my defibrillator go haywire
just kidding
no defib for me
as any ole nure will say if itd do any good id have dnr tattoed on my forehead!!
Great hub...I set goals//the first goal of hubpages was just to see if i could get an article researched and write and published
then to see what others thought
was I on the correct path so to speak
now its not the money but OK it is the money
I do want a La Jolla bike after all
tertia and lauara du toit cant have the only one fun eh?
and if
NO
WHEN i make payout and get my bicycle then i will set anoter goal...
but the best is just writers like you
rebecca
and the ones I miss
the ones who got mad and let it go
man i miss some of those hubbers so much!!!
you remember the one withthe avatar of the 3 kids on the back seat of the school bus?
man .... the thing is you are so right
not just abot the $
its importat yes
but more important is writing itself
just the writing itself
I know that makes me sound so old fashioned...but its how I feel
dont you?
Very good tips, Rebecca! The comments is what many new hubbers fail to get the gist of. They may not read other's hubs and worse fail to respond to comments left in their hubs. When I see this, I know that no matter how good their writing is, they will not get comments in the future, and that in itself can be discouraging for many. For me hubpages has been such a positive experience, I joined mostly to share my thoughts, and improve my writing skills.
Thumbs up!
Thanks again for a fantastic hub, Rebecca! Geez, for a second, I got a bit nervous as I thought YOU were the one that was actually going to leave! I thought,"What the heck is she talking about? She's a rock star at HubPages!" So with that said, I'm glad that you aren't leaving!
I know several friends that left without having left any bread crumbs for me to follow, but in the end, I guess that I have no choice but to respect their decision. Many get dollar signs when first signing up here and when they don't make Google Adsense payout like after 30 days upon joining, they think that HubPages is some kind of scam! Lucky for me, I joined to share my writing--the money to me is secondary :D
Thanks as always, Rebecca. You are one of the bright lights here at HP!
