When starting on hubpages, you need to do a few things to jump start your business. You need a bit of Internet knowledge and a bit of Google knowledge and a basic idea of how you are going to maximize you hubs so that they will give you the most money you want. This effort does of course take a bit of time, and while you are learning (which never stops) you are slowly building your money from Google and other affiliate programs.
Now a business is something that most people on hubpages do not look at. There are a few people who do look at their hubs as a business and make money with their hubs, but they will be the first to say that quality is part of the formula.
The next part is the promotion on various other sites, and getting that "gold" traffic. Now, if you have been paid by Google AdSense, you are probably wondering why did it take so long to get paid??
Are you thinking business or writing here and there? Now, some will say if you write a lot of make money hubs, you will make money. This is NOT true. In fact it is like the business hubs around here, a highly competitive market where only the top make money. It is sort of the 80/20 rule when making money.
A lot of people on hubpages will also comment that they are earning what they expected to earn online. Now, what a lot of writers do not like to admit is that one, as much as they want money, the niche they are in is not one which will make them all that much money. So, it will take a long time to make money.
For example, if you publish a hub about religion, it's traffic who will want to debate about the hub that will not click on a Google ad. They will comment, and if you are on the hubpages Ad program, then most likely you will make some money online-- not much but more than if you rely on your keyword research or choosing another topic.
Two, they want money, but not the work which is involved in this business. It is a game which is similar to banks and finances. So, we'll go wit that analogy for this hub, this is a business where the hubs which survive create their bank and build from there.

To Make Money your need traffic, and some thing other need: Okay, like a bank, you need customers, and you need them to need some "financial help" in other words, your traffic needs to see value in your work. If it doesn't see value your customer base will disappear quickly.
Like in banking, people have a lot of choices, where they can put their money. You ads by Google are like your products, so care must be taken to build a great hub that creates the proper keywords, which in turn allows AdSense to see what you 'have to offer." Offer the right sort of products and you will eventually make some money, but really it does take a long time to build your traffic and links to a point where the "hubs work for themselves." ( as in passive income)
Also, the same holds true with amazon, if you write a good quality, good looking hub, chances are you will make money, and thereby improve your finances. (People from North Carolina-- I understand that you can't get amazon, but please read eBay here... works the same)
Improve traffic: You need links. In this case links are like mini commercials we see for the various banks. Now, some will put them up on the web, and some will put them in newspapers, but they are trying to grab as many people to build their customer base to improve the financial bottom line of their business. With enough good links, your hubs will make you passive income-- not much but some, but like interest it builds over time.
In the same way making money on hubpages works like this, you need to get your hubs noticed and you need to at least add a few links, now for some adding links to social networking sites is a great way to begin and for other building the links via online articles is great and for some... there are hundreds of way to build links to your site.
Personally I would use as many of them as I can, and I would build up my profile in each area, so social networking sites, and then sites such as RedGage, and then other sites out there. I will build this over a matter of months for each hub. Not days not weeks but months. Keep building those links to get traffic.
Like banks you wouldn't stop promoting after a few weeks would you?
Making Money With Google.. How Long Until You Frist Pay-Out Ever?
See results without votingSo, really how long is does it really take?: I am always dismayed by people who say you can make $1000 or more on websites and other places like hubpages after a month. Really I know the averages, and the average time to get your pay out from Google AdSense (for hubpages alone!) is 4-7 months.
That is the average. Now, if you don't promote and don't build your profile in and around hubpages, you will not make money and it will take a long time. Also, the question you need to ask is this: What makes my work so wonderful that I will make a payout below the average time?
You need to build your work, and your profile, and 100 hubs in 15 days is not what build your reputation. It can in fact destroy it. You need quality, and you need good links and a lot of effort to build your "bank." This is a business in which you want to make money. Then you want to build up to the point where you get passive income ( like interest on a savings account.)
Think like a business, with banks they work hard at building and maintaining a good reputation. Their financial lives depends on it, Think of your hubs as a small bank and then look at your hubs and at your Google AdSense ads. (NEVER click on your ads) and think about how you can improve your business.
The last Word-- how long it takes to get that pay out is really dependant on how long you want to build your work. There is always a tipping point where people will want to come to your work, and then go through the rest of your work, but that takes time.
Learn the average time it takes to build your income and think like a business, but also be creative and have a bit of fun. the more you love what you do the more you will find that success finds you.

I really enjoyed reading this informative article. I realise that I will really have to put effort in on a daily basis for my participation on this website to bear fruit. I guess the biggest consolation for me is that there's the potential to make money at some point, even if it will take a while. It's better than nothing.

earner--- yeppie! bravo, ye use al the resources and that will happen sooner as opposed to later. Amazntook me a bit as well, as i learned canada's amazon doesn't work with hubpages.
I've already made my first £1000 (US$1500) from hubpages. But, on top of that, because of the other monetization opportunities (ebay, kontera, amazon), I've probably made another £200-300. Although I've made nothing with Amazon modules yet, but that's because I only found out last week (on hub forums) that being a UK affiliate is no good, I had to join the (separate/different) US Amazon affiliate programme and use that as my ID instead. I signed up with US/Amazon and popped that new ID into my profile and already had 4 clicks (OK, not a biggie, but it'll do something over the next year or so).
Patience.... is what makes money online. Patience, beliefe, effort, learning ... and tenacity.

I agree with you that there is no easy money. The more effort you put in your work, the more money you'll make. Simple as that. And, many people think that they can make lot of money in a short period of time with average work. NO!
Yes, it can take some time. I think that many should also think outside of the square and realise that there are many ways to monetize within Hubpages.
One method I use for a student is pay per view. The client pays for their Hub views that have been achieved monthly.
It's just one more way to monetize,,,they create the content and you get build and manage the Hub. Remember if you plan well you will also get Adsense from this!

You have a lot to offer here and it is good for people to hear that they won't make instant money on HP, and that doing so takes effort. I am sometimes surprised by folks who think they can write a slew of 300-400 word articles and make a mint. I would like to know if that is working for them? Writing is only one part of the equation, though, as you said. And all of that other stuff takes time, effort, and patience. Thanks for an enlightening article.

Well my friend good articles like this will def bring in some money because your good post has the potential to be tweeted by someone or just shared with a friend.
Also internal linking to your other hub pages gives your articles more credibility. It is all about who is more credible in the game of google.

I think that the 'niche' concept is my trouble in making money here-my hubs are all over the place. So as a business, I would probably be a 99 cent store-lots of stuff to choose from, but little profit! I'm not saying my hubs have no quality, they just are rarely connected.

Nice hub! One thing that you pointed out that should be obvious... the hubbers that I return to are the ones who have the highest quality hubs - something to offer me as a reader. When I read a poorly written hub that is not offering anything new, I never return to one of their pages. I know that your hub addresses more than that, but thanks for reinforcing the idea of quality!

Making money with adsense is tuff. I've been with t for around 2 months and ive made about 10 bucks. I am thankful I've made somehthing but reaching payout can be quite hard. Anywayys great hub. I will follow.

vydyulashashi-- if you only submit your content and no one else's then it is looked upon as spam, so it is some thing to consider, pttuing others hubs on your social netwroking sites. Digg might not if they consider your things "spam like" but I've had no trouble with digg or stumble upon or reddit but I also put other hubs there as well.

I like your analogy of interest from a bank. Writing for money definitely works the same. Each additional quality hub adds more income, just like compound interest. Your stats are very realistic. At nine months I am very close to getting my first payout.
yes..you are rite..many of them think of earning by hubs instantly but they don't know the secret of the business..
even i didn't generated single pie with hub but my intention was not to earn with hub..though i was upset initially regarding google adsense. Now i realize how and what to do by reading many articles like yours..
Regarding social bookmarking and sharing,its really one of the key factor in driving the traffic unless u won't spam...and if any one of you are aware are not i want to mention a point here..don't go traffic exchange if you wish to sign up with google adsense or an existing google adsense publisher.though you can increase your traffic massively with manual 1:1 basis traffic exchange.
Google strictly rejects new applications who get their traffic by exchange and they will ban existing users too..
so be aware and stay away

What some people don't realize is that even when you do finally reach your first $100 payout with Google it may take up to a year to get that first check in the mail. I'm not sure why they do it, but they do. I didn't get mine until almost a year after I reached the first payout.

Pamela-- not too sure about how much pinging helps, but I know that quality hubs and great backlinks trumps just about anything.
schoolgirlforreal-- go to edit and try teh capsule that says link, then use keywords to see what you get. As for e-zine they are pretty strict and if you get a no just take it in stride and keep on writing.

The bank analogy is a sound one. We all need "customers" and if we offer what they need, folks will come back. I get a lot of traffic from sports hubs, and I am always grateful for hub followers who are completely uninterested in sports but are willing to stop by and leave a comment. It means that somewhere along the way, I did something right. It is slow going and sometimes I know it's hard to find encouragement in small, tiny gains, but building on those gains is the right path.

I don't think that through HP anyone can make a fortune, moreover not in 1 or 2 weeks or months. It will take loads of effort and time to write quality hubs - everybody should remember that quantity itself is nothing.
All in all if you are a good writer and you can keep up the good work you will earn only a little extra money with writing.
By the way: may I ask you Rebecca, was it a nice check? :) /of course I don't want to know the exact amount - I just want to know whether I am right/
