Make Money Online It's a New Business so How Long Does It Take (In terms of time or on average including hubpages)?
74How long does it take to make money here on hubpages?
Time frame are a huge factor in making the money your want to make online. Here on hubpages it is best to know this ahead of time. Still this question caught my eye, they are asking how long will it take to make money through google and amazon and other affiliate programs on hubpages.
It is a great question: it shows that this person has some experience in terms of the Internet, but that they also understand that it is a business, and they want to make money at it. Now the question is good, but it was the comment after the question that made me write this hub.
I like this analogy: In a money business you plan out as much as you can, you work with others and make money online. To start with you work long hours and make a little money. Then it gets a bit easier, and you spend more time adding improvements. Again like all businesses there is a bottom line: how long and why.
I'll do a Question and Answer style to this hub.
What sort of Money are you looking to make?:This question I ask myself a lot when I read some questions in the answers section of hubpages. Some believe by adding more hubs and websites and link them all together, they will make money today. However, making money today is a very subjective thing.
If I make say 2 cents I have made money today, but I believe that isn't what people are looking to make in terms of money. They want to make say $10 or more a day. This takes time. To make that kind of money you need to link between your hubs and blogs and promote your profile. Simply put, changing your profile information ever so often will encourage people to look at your profile.
Yes, I do read profiles, and I also read the weekly hubpages newsletter. It gives me a quick snapshot of both my traffic and profile views, both of which are important. Still this is traffic not money. Or is it? Traffic to a hub is the only source of money. When people talk about having different sources of traffic, they can also mean that there is a potential for money in traffic.
The thing about traffic is this: where are you getting your traffic? This determines how much money you can make in a day. With proper links, great content and careful keyword selection you will have a better chance at getting proper ads on your hubs. (I am only referring to google ads... and your share of the ad impressions)
Google and how to make money with it, by far, is the most written about, as it is possibly the simplest, a person reads your hubs and sees the ads by google. (This comes from AdSense) Then if interested in a certain ad, they will click on an ad, the better the keywords, the more chance there is to make money. Keywords in this case are a way that Google gives you ads.
I've heard about Google but what about amazon and other affiliate programs?: The reason you hear more success stories from google AdSense is because it is a lot easier to make money faster than amazon. Still amazon has its benefits.
I don't use eBay, so I won't jump into that comment area, but I do use amazon. I've had some success with amazon, and it is really about three things: keywords, choice, and placement. Yes, some do make good money with amazon, including many of our own writers on hubpages.
Still, for the most part it take a lot longer to get amazon going than google. The bonus to amazon is this: when people go and buy books they tend to buy several books at once. So, once you get a good traffic base amazon tends to do well. That takes time and again learning what works as good keywords and books.
My suggestion is to get a few books on how to sell amazon products, most people who do well, have a lot of knowledge about how amazon works. In this case it is similar to Google, money comes from clicks and you get a percentage based on the price of the items you sell. The more you sell, the higher the percentage each month. At the end of the the percentages goes back to the lowest point.
Again remember that it takes time to make money, and you might get a payout today, but most likely it will take a while.
So How long Can It really Take?:This is a good news bad news answer for some people. Bad news first, if you don't do anything other than write hubs, and that's about it, it can take years to make money. Based on the averages I've read, it is about 25% of google publishers who make $100 per month. I would imagine the pay out percentages would be the same with the other affiliate programs.
So Let's make it easy, if say 10,000 people on hubpages have google AdSense and other affiliate programs on their hubs, then 2,500 people make a payout each month. Be realistic when setting your goals. Are you certain you are going to be a part of that 2,500 people?
Good News: You can make a payout from amazon, google and other affiliate programs each month. ( If you live outside the US, and you are working with amazon it will take a while, as they send checks. that minimum is $100.)
To do this, use social networking sites wisely, add you hubs on the social networking sites, and subscribe to others on the sites, also, link between hubs and your blogs, of course dot his within the rules of hubpages. Work on SEO and keywords and use Google AdWords Keyword tools to understand how competition affects you level of money per click.
This will increase you chances of getting a payout each month, as it will increase your traffic. The aim is to get traffic from the search engines, which are most likely to produce money for you. As a rule, most people on hubpages won't click on ads, mostly for fear that they will click on their own ads. So have a good look at where your traffic is coming from. This is the way to maximize your work in terms of return of investment.
Why should I worry about all these things?: For some, the work is just too hard, they need to do all these things and it seems like such a huge list to do.
So most people will ask? Why should I do these things? Well, you want to make money right? To you this isn't a hobby, this is business and you want to make money. You want to work at home and google AdSense, and amazon and eBay seem like such great ideas, a way to make money.
All you need to do is publish a hub or two and the people will flock to you.
Well, not exactly, for some it takes one hundred hubs for other 40 and for others, they simply won't make a lot of money. That is the nature of their writing or the hubs they write with. There are other reasons: a poor keyword, low search engine standings, poor content. low traffic. The list goes on, but these are the main one.
If you do at least some of these things, you might make more if you do all of these things your chances of success are increased. It takes time, and luck and some good content.
How Long?
How Long Did It Take to Get Your 1st Payout with Amazon, Google or eBay?
See results without votingSo how long will it take ME to make money?: Well that is up to you. You are the author of your hubs, and it is your time and your money. Hubpages gives you an opportunity and it is up to you to use it correctly. By doing this you will increase your chances of making your goal a reality.
Set yourself a realistic goal: For the most part, it takes about 6 months to get a payout from most of these affiliate programs. (The numbers vary, but that is the "average") you could get a payout quicker, or it may not be so quick. Still the goal needs to be something you can do everyday, say make your profile more appealing, or link between your blogs and hubs. this will bring your closer to your goal sooner.
Publish your hubs, and aim high, and learn some new things via other hubbers, NEVER copy them, but give credit where credit is due. Strive to make your hubs the best you can make them.
Remember: You might not make money today, but with social networking, links, and traffic you will make some money at some point.

Hi Rebecca, another fantastic hub that has something for everyone, from novice hubber to more experienced. Have bookmarked + voted up. Excellent advice and information, especially for someone like me who feels, at times, over-whelmed with the amount to know/learn and with the tons of confusing information out there about Adsense etc.
My main aim is to slowly build my hubs, continue getting experience in writing and learn from others. This is a slow way to do it but I feel it's a strong foundation I'm making and that I don't move forward until I have a good grasp of a new piece of information. I'm the type of person that if I rush into things without fully understanding what I'm doing then it turns messy and confusing and looses its appeal. Many thanks for sharing this hub and clearing some more of the cobwebs.
Nice hub ,Thanks for the post
Earnings from the Amazon affiliate program can be good, but it takes time. One suggestion if you go after the Amazon Affiliate program is to provide as much value as you possibly be can about the product or book you are linking to. The longer the article or post is with great info, the more likely that a visitor will follow through to Amazon and purchase. I like the affiliate program, but I've found my bread and butter through selling regular products on Amazon which is another way to go.
Again you have helped me so much with this hub. I read on one hub from Wrylit a seasoned hub writer said she wished she had spent 80% of her first month on Hub Pages reading other hubs to learn the ropes. I am trying to do just that and your hubs are a big part of my learning process. Thanks again.
really interesting read. As a newcomer, payouts seem a long way away and hubs such as yours encourage me to make the next small step! Thanks
thank you for that hub
Great post, thanks for the advice.
Well done Rebecca. This will help many hubbers. I think that it can be a bit of a lottery sometimes but we should all just enjoy what we do!
Thanks x
Excellent info thank you. I haven't been a member at HubPages for very long and joined because I want to learn from others here and also share some knowledge and if I can do that and possibly make some money doing it then great.
Cheers Rebecca.
Grant.
great hub! i was just thinking about that..how to make money online...actually, have been thinking about it for months as money never came..lol..but writing sure does make it worthwhile...enjoy it very much.
great work, keep it up!
The whole thing is a numbers game, the key is to always be increasing the amount of quality content you put out. Your earnings will follow...
It took me two years - literally 24 months - to make my first $100 with Google. But I know the reasons why. My main blog had a variety of content instead of a clear focus - and there were about 6 months total when I didn't post during that 2 year period. So focus, focus, focus on a niche and post content regularly whether a blog or Hubpages. And a first payment could be within 4 or 5 months with the second payout in much shorter time.
I also think Hubbers need at least 45 to 50 Hubs written before making money with Adsense . . . and linked between Hubs.
Amazon has been frustrating for me -- but I keep experimenting.
Hi Rebecca
I expected to paid after 3 months so this gives me some hope, thanks for sharing
thanks, it this hub made me even more determined. very informative......
I love become part of hubpages member. Be patient, never give up and always give the best in every writing (like give useful information) We can survive here. Thanks
i personally think adsense is bull i could make more money saving pennies
but with some systems they are effective like this one
thanks Rebecca E for creating this hub, it was also my question. i saw your profile you are on hubpage from 7 months are you making money on hubpages? please answer my question.
I voted "2 months or less". At first I was surprised at the poll results, but then realized that anyone reading this article probably hasn't earned money yet or they wouldn't be researching the topic. :) Great info & I like the format you used to addressed the topic.
Great hub as ever Rebecca, I am now cashing out every 2 months but my target is £400 a month by the end of 2010, and as you say it does takes both hard work and research but if you are prepared to work at it the rewards are there !
well i am trying huns since nov i think and i have made no sales on amazon and have only 5.95$ in google adsense and that too after i have got over 22,000 page views. Also i have never seen adsense give me more than 5 cents on any click of mine no matter what i write on. so probably i think i need to change things and i got articles all over sites like blog spot, hub, triond to mention a few
Rebecca, Another good hub about making money. It is difficult no matter how hard you work at it to get started and build a fan base. Thanks for the information.
It's difficult at first to balance one's expectations and hopes with the reality. Then not to lose the motivation and give up before you give it all a chance to work.
A hub like this brings you down to earth, but not with a crash - keeping you floating just enough to keep the hopes alive. Thanks for the clarity and motivation.
Great sound advice as usual, Rebecca. For many of us newbies, are frustrations outweigh our expectations and so we quit before we ever give this online publishing business a solid shot. However, those who believe in themselves, their abilities, and have penchant to listen to others will become successful. You are certainly of that variety! Thanks again.
Rebecca - you write so well about money-making on hubpages, have you thought of combining your various hubs in an ebook?
You could offer it for a nominal price or even free if you desired to bring in additional traffic.
Great advice as usual!
This was very interesting to read and very insightful
You have framed the basic issues quite well. Your advice is always sound and easy to follow--I always read what you have to say about making money here. Thanks.
As always, I appreciate your shared experience, common sense and dose of reality. Thanks for the reminder that patience and perseverance pays. I have stalled and should get to writing again.....
thanks again..whenever you post a new hub i will be reading it...your writing skills on getting a viewers attention is great
Thanks, Rebecca -- good info. As I'm not a "how-to" writer nor a researcher (I hate research) looks like I'll probably remain a "just for fun" writer! Your information is always valuable and I appreciate it so much. Best, Sis
So that is why they say don't quite your day job. Cause it takes time and perseverence.
Ah, Rebecca...just when I think I'm ready to stop trying to figure it all out..not quit just stop trying to FIGURE it as in goodle adsense etc., out, you post an excellent hub like this! And even though only 9 people have taken the poll so far...I see I am not alone in my checkless situation! LOL..but I have been here a mere two months so thanks for a much needed hub!
Well this helps greatly as I had some of my questions answered by your hub page. This is very helpful for newbies like me.
Thank you for all your good advice.
Work and patience, its all we need! Hope we will be paid for this one day! Great and encouraging hub!
Great info as usual.
Ah! My dearest Becca...
You should be working on an easy manual to help with this particular subject. You´ve given so much feedback and helpful advices and in several interesting hubs as well. What can I say? Great work!
Thumbs Up!
warmest regards and blessings,
Al
Thank you again Rebecca E, For another great hub, I appreciate you and your hubs, your comments and feedback. Godspeed. creativeone59
Hi Rebecca, I've been with hubpages for 8 month and only now I have more traffic coming from search engine then refferal or direct. No money yet...well i shouldn't say no money i did like $1 but I'm not giving up not yet (that's why I came to your hubs every time). Thank again.
Thanks again for all your helpful hints. Social networking certainly is a most.
Hi Rebecca,
It seems to me that the "how to" hubs make the most money, especially the "how to make money" hubs
This was very good to read.
You want to know how much time I took to reach the first payout threshold with Adsense? It was after one long year. As you said, a lot depends on the kind of hubs you are writing. People who write about products / merchandise make good money from e-bay as well as adsense. For the rest, its just about satisfying the creative instinct. :)
Thanks for your publish. It answered some questions for me!
