Make Money Online: Google AdSense, Your Business, and Online Writing Sites
78Google AdSense and Making Money?
Now this is yet another question I found on in the answers section of hubpages. In fact this is a really good one, they are asking how to make money, or to be more precise how can you make money online.
The answer is how fast can they make money using all the affiliate programs they can think of and then wonder why that does not work for them, or the fact doing so with the Google Adsense affilaite programs and the like isn't easy. The problem which they point out is that it is too much of a business.
Well, there are really only a couple of ways you can make money on hubpages. Like all online businesses, there are certain ways you can maximize your revenue. So Instead of saying how to maximize your revenue or improve your SEO, I'll go into detail on the ways that you can help yourself in this business, with Amazon, Google, eBay and Kontera.
Make Money Fast
The Most Important Thing about Making Money Online and On Hubpages:This is something that can make money for you. It is a business so work on it as such. Know the odds of making money, and yes I know about three hub writers who make money, and good money at that.
A Hub is NOT a blog, rather they are semi permanent websites. Like anything that can make money you need to follow the rules. If you write online, you need to understand that, for example people will follow you and some will even comment. Some will just look at your hubs and then leave and other might comment and do a poll or do some social networking, but it does take time.
One published hub or no published hubs means no money. I am sorry to say that some people still seem to think that. They will log on to hubpages, and then will ask questions, such as I've signed up and am making no money. Guess what? You need a hub. A profile on hubpages is not a hub.
I find some hub writers will write on hub, and then add to it, like a blog. This is not how it works, not even with the search engines but still I will not have much push to go an read a hub which is ever expanding. Edit them yes, if fact editing them is encouraged, but you don't need to add to them everyday, write a new hub and link between them.
If you get a message from hubpages, read it. It is not spam. I don't know how many hub writers complain on the answers section that their work is tagged as over-promoted or duplicate, and that they have an email from hubpages... read them they are important.
Google Adsense Affiliate Program
If You don't know about Google AdSense, now is a great time to learn about it: Everyone loves to talk about Google AdSense affiliate program, how to maximize it, what no one likes to mention is the time factor. Or for that matter a little thing called payouts, which seems to be the big thing that drives people nuts.
25% of ALL google publishers make a payout per month from the Google AdSense program. What this means is this if there are 100 Google AdSense publishers, only 25 will get a payout each month. So if you get a payout every other month or every three months, good for you. Sometimes it can take years.
What helps, sometimes, is learning about Google AdSense and about keywords. Some website owners will tell you to put high priced keywords in your text, but I don't agree with this. Quality counts, and yes if you don't know what your subject is just to get a high priced keyword, people will notice.
If you don't know about a subject you won't get much traffic, and you won't be able to deal with negative feedback or helpful suggestions. Google AdSense is based on Google AdWords, who provide the ads that you see on hubs or blogs or websites. This is where many people try teh keyword tool, which is based upon teh cost for adverts on Google Adwords.
They pay when an ad is clicked, and you get payed from that. So if you get a poorly preforming hub or blog or whatever, you might not want to put Google AdSense on it, simply because it will pull down your other hubs etc in the process.
Now remember: On hubpages 60% of the ad impressions are from your Google AdSense account ( use your publishers ID from Google to do this) and 40% is from hubpages Google publishers ID. Sorry that is the way it goes. You don't make money based on how many hubs you put up, so don't go doing that! Traffic and links and keywords and QUALITY content are the only ways to maximize Google AdSense. That takes time, and learning.
Amazon IS another which you need to learn about, but you need to understand a few things: Amazon is the online book store/ everything store we all know and love. Okay sometimes love to hate. Simply because of the rules it has, but if you read the TOS (Terms of Service) you'll know this, and you'll know you can make money, but slowly.
The biggest thing about amazon is this: the payout is low, only $10 in the US, via direct deposit, cheque of $100 elsewhere. Now, for all the complaining I tend to do about it, this is a good one to have, as it is fair for everyone.
Now I do find that keywords on amazon are good, but be careful with the words you use, a general keyword tends to be better than something with a more specific keyword. You make a percentage based on what people buy from amazon each month, every person who uses amazon starts at 4% until they sell 7 more more items then it goes up.
This happens each month, so remember this. The one thing I do like about amazon, which is why I have the capsules, is that when someone does make an order it helps and goes a long way.
Still for some there are ways to maximize revenue from amazon, but it is a bit more of a process than maximizing Google AdSense. The Content needs to relate to your writing, and it also needs to be something that someone will need.
If you look to your right, you can see that I put a capsule about Amazon, and I played around with it to get what I wanted, sort of I had to type in amazon.com for dummies to get that specific product. Of course you can call this a bit of Amazon SEO.
When think of the amazon business in this way, you can maximize your amazon revenue much better.

eBay is something similar to amazon, except as you may have noticed...:I don't use eBay, so I won't comment to much simply because I do not use it, but it follows the general idea of amazon.
The big thing about eBay is that their TOS (terms of Service) are quite strict, so to get in you need to read the contract and follow it. For some, this is their bread and butter. They will show many things that eBay "list-er" will sell, so it can make money.
Of course again maximizing the revenue from eBay is a learning process. Sort of like Google AdSense in that content and keywords are a must. Remember this is a business so learn all you can to have success, and of course money.
Kontera is the last of the four you can make money with: Again follow the TOS of Kontera. This means read the contract. Now if you are logged into hubpages you won't see anything in terms of Kontera, so be advised on this one.
It is like Google, that it scans your content and uses your content as the basis for the ads. You will find the ads as a double line under a keyword.
Again, the better the content, the better the chances for a click on your ads. So with Kontera, the content is everything. The terms of services are like Google you can not ever (don't even think it!) click on your own ad.
There is a payout threshold, and Kontera recommends not to sign up UNLESS you consistently make $50 or more on Google AdSense each month, otherwise you won't see success.
I am still debating the merits to Kontera, but for the most part, I think this is a good online business to think about once you've made money with Google AdSense. Again you need to be making steady income from Google AdSense to consider this option.
I Can Make Money...
See results without votingOne Last Word: I get to do this because it is my hub after all!
Still you need to begin to think like a business and you need to publish quality hubs with great content. Make sure you are interactive. Learn about SEO, and how to improve it. Learn all you can about the methods to make money on hubpages and online.
I believe that long term it is your content, and then your choice of keywords and SEO that will make a difference with how you will either make money or improve your earnings with any of these programs. That of course means a willingness to learn.
As always to your success.

Great information and you hit the nail on the head and it take work and time to make money online and thank you for this GREAT information.
Great article and Great information and I do agree that is take time to make money on line.
this article inspire me :)
I'm inspired! Yay! I need to go post more hub articles now.
voted, rated and shared!
Hub pages rule. Great content, and wow ive been on the front page of google and it seemed like i put no effort in at all!
a couple hours here and there and voila, go hubpages!
Nice article, heading back later for another look...
good concept
Rebecca, You do make mistakes, but I would suggest that you do what you tell other to do and edit.
I would also add that you should read it out loud, as this is a way that you can correct your mistakes by hearing what you wrote.
Rebecca; If English isn't your first language then that's fine. In fact it's great that you can speak more than one language as I cannot. I can barely get by in French (I've forgotten most of it over the last 20 years), my ASL (sign language) is ok but I need to use it more, and for the most part I can only swear in Dutch, Greek and German.
=)
I prefer to join at adsense programme because I could do not interfere with my main job.Lirik Lagu Barat
Why do such poor hubs such as this get such high ratings?
Your use of the English language is poor, your sentence structure is poor, you have spelling errors, grammar errors, capitalization errors... It hurt my brain to try and read through the whole thing, which I didn't do.
Hooray for highly ratings and low quality! I bet you're making... dozens of dollars per year and will continue to do so for a long time.
Have a super day.
You hit the nail on the head when you said quality counts. The top 10 in any Google search are usually carefully written sites. If you do not make the top ten for any keyword phrase, chances are you are not making any money.
We will just to have to test the Kontera theory. When I reach payout and disable I'll let you know how things go. Right now I am well over $50 a month with Adsense yet Kontera only brings in cents a day. Of course those cents add up but I have been on Kontera a year and a half and no payout yet ( but I'm close...lol!!)
Great hub...you are great
Thanks rebecca some really useful tips
Great hub; Informative. Personally the reason I like to stick to Hubs is that they tend to rank higher in SEs.
Great Hub! If we have published informative and useful Hubs, we can get good traffic and make some money. My opinion is that every title should attract the readers of Hubpages so that we can get increased traffic.
Great quality and informative hub, well done.
squidoo is more customizable in fact I do lens there as well
Rebecca E) Very well written and easy to understand. Great hub for those looking to understand how to make money on HubPages. I have done well with Adsense - and EBay and Amazon are getting better and Kontera...well....let's just say as soon as I finally reach my $100 payout with Kontera I am disabling it. It took too long to reach payout and I have heard that it's better to focus on Adsense. Kontera could take away some potential adsense shoppers.
Thumbs up!!
Can you have a link at bottom of hub to sell a product related to your hub?
Nice hub and good tips, although i feel Squidoo allows more customization.
Excellent Hub! Great information and very well presented. I'm looking forward to reading more of your Hubs.
Hi Rebecca, I shouldn't think that hub is a blog, i should take it like a business.
thanks for sharing. :-)
Very helpful hub, thanks for taking the time to write this and provide all the links! :-)

Thanks for sharing your info.
...articles madness! a hub is not a blog and a blog is not a hub! corect! a hub is page with an article about something on it that will bring "a lot" of money to the owner! wrong! it will bring a lot of money to the website owner ( hubpages.com in this case)! :)
really nice
There is more skill to writing than writing itself. You can be the greatest writer in the world and not make a penny if you dont know SEO! And much of this knowledge is hugely debated and contested between the SEO's gurus. The truth of the matter is that nobody knows the maths that it takes and much of it is a lottery. As hubpages advocate (and your good self) - produce good quality hubs with great content.
I think if we think in terms of how we find relevant articles and what we see as good, then that is good enough for us.
Thanks for writing another quality, content rich article, my friend :)
What I've found interesting both in terms of traffic and Adsense is that one of my best hub is a short one with little pictures. Not what's usually advised on HubPages. That's pretty interesting, anyway the readers seem to appreciate it being short and to the point.
As usual a very good and very useful hub. R&S. :)
Very good hub. The info was very easy to understand. I am only a member a few days so it is great to read hubs which explain in detail all about Adnsense and Amazon. Thks
Good info as always, Rebecca. I am guilty of not paying enough attention to keywords early in a hub, but I'm trying to become more thoughtful about it.
Good reminder that a hub is not a blog. The difference is so pronounced, it's almost shocking when one comes across a "got out of bed this morning and couldn't find the corn flakes" hub.
Your answers to questions are probably my most bookmarked of any hubs here. Thanks for always being helpful.
Mike
Yay! Yes let's do it. To illustrate how much this newbie needs your help, how do I "send it as a request?"
Rebecca, I am glad to know it takes time. I am putting a lot of time and energy in writing well researched hubs and things are finally improving but it has been slow. I would hate to consider my hourly rate! Your hub is very helpful. Thanks.
Rebecca thank you again for your helpful advice. I have a proposition for you: Let's (meaning you) make a hub about the master (you) helping a newbie (moi) improve an already published hub. Pick any one of my hubs and I'll make improvements you suggest which you can illustrate (maybe before and after) on your hub about a hub. What do you think? =:)
Nice run down on the way to make money on hub pages. Im still unsure on Kontera too. Your to the point too and I like that. I read somethings that go on and on and Im like okay and the point is? You always get to the point and expand on that. That is what I enjoy about your writing.
Thank you for a down-to-earth hub. You jet make me a millionaire on hub with giving all these information.
Thanks Rebecca E., another great hub. I must admit I've written hubs after a lot of keyword research, and I've written hubs from the heart as it were. you know what, the ones from the heart that I'm really interested in always do best, especially my brussels sprouts hub and my dog drawing hub - both real passions of mine.
I'm glad you emphasised how hard it is to make money. I treat hubpages as a business and work at it, not expecting to see great returns for probably two years (though it's addictive looking at yur adsense earnings, and yes, occasionally seeing a big click through - looks better in dollars than in £s!). Once again, thanks for the great hub.
Excellent info Rebecca. I am finally getting some clicks on Adsense and it's exciting. But no I am not making a living yet it's still fun to see the clicks. Thanks for a great read.
Thanks Rebecca. Your hubs are a constant reminder to me that I should really stop writing about things which interest me rather than subjects people want to hear about then I would make real money...I like to think. As it is I enjoy myself too much writing, and besides I do make money every day. Thanks again.
Excellent article Rebecca!! It answers so many question a newbie is bound to have...Rated up and even bookmarked it...coz still a newbie!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rebecca another really helpful article. I joined Jan 1st And I am hoping to be earning SOMETHING by Christmas is that likely do you think? Oh and can I ask just what is meant by organic traffic?
Great article Rebecca.I think every newbie must read it.Making Adsence money can be difficult for someone, but Ivthink if one find regular Google organic traffic, then its much easier to get your Ads clicked.Thank you.
Rebecca E, you lay it out well and it looks like you have it pretty well down pat. I will bookmark this Hub and study it for sure. Unfortunately in Australia Amazon is not paying out in money!
Great advice and thanks for the info on how to implement it into our hubs! Always great to see you answering questions with such great enthusiasm and efficiency, Rebecca!
It's a tricky game and I agree with Dohn121--a lot of the time it's a matter of luck. Quality and persistence have to count at some point.
Boy, Rebecca, if I could fly you down to Bishop for a couple of tutoring sessions, perhaps I'd be in business. As it is, I'll have to take some classes here at the local community college.
You're quite a gal!
Thanks Rebeca.
This is fantastic information for me
My love...
This is great stuff! Clear cut and to the point! If someone is considering making money at Hub´s, he/she´d better be ready to devote time, planning and patience. If it were so easy, It wouldn´t be good biz. Thanks for sharing, sweet baby!
Thumbs up, Bookmarked and Stumbled!
warmest care bear hugs, kisses galore, love, light and infinite blessings,
Yours eternal,
Al
Thanks for putting all this good information together in one hub, Rebecca.

Hey, Rebecca. First off, thank you for pointing out that making some SERIOUS money on HubPages is hard work and is not for everyone (especially for those who are lazy and impatient). It takes time and effort to do so, but rest assured, doing your homework will pay off (not to mention pay out) in the long-run.
I'm finding that making money through AdSense for me is inconsistent and that some of it has to do with luck! It's one thing to get clicks and it's another to get a Click-through in which people actually "commit" to the Ad(s) they are clicking, meaning they buy the product or service. So what does this mean to us? It's the difference between making 7 cents versus making $7 dollars in some cases, per click! Yes, I've had this happen a couple of times, but like I said, it's not frequent. Clicks don't really add up to much if no one is buying the product or service in question.
Wonderful work as always, Rebecca. Keep it up!
Dohn

bunny-- it does take time, but you can have a lot of success with your work.
