The Real Thing With Making Money On Hubpages Is... You Can on "Hub Pages"
75Can You Make Money on Hubpages?
Making money on hubpages is a fact, people do make money here- but of course they have quality hubs and have been writing online for a long time. It is also true that without a lot of help this doesn't happen. In fact, most hub writers will not make money all the time. Sorry that is the nature of this business. Now, if you are brand new... Unless you have ties to other sites that you can promote what you publish effectively enough to increase traffic you are going to be a while.
This is not a 24 hours or less process there is no guarantee what you publish will be viewed of as good by your readers. It is like publishing a book, unless that "money" is a penny from Google AdSense, you will be working very hard to build your online business. Remember that this is an affiliate program for a reason. This is a business and while it is great to dream big, in this business you need to be realistic. There are a lot of people and resources out there...
So the questions becomes to make money online for your hubs where do you start and what should you expect?
Write and Publish That hub already!
Where to start making money: Write a hub. Seriously, write a hub. I have lost count the number of times that some one thinks that their hubpages profile will get them money. It does not. While it is good business practice to have a good becoming profile, you need a hub.
In fact if you have not already done so, you will need to hit publish on any hubs whic you have been working on for the past while. Unless they are not done at all, then you should hit publish on them so that people can come and read your hubs.
I would go as far as to say you need a good quality hub, and one that people will want to see. You will probably need to write a few over the course of several weeks. You need to build links to that hub in order to get that "gold" search engine traffic. Now, most people will say that they get a lot of search engine traffic.
They tell you that they get it with each and every hub that they write.
The truth is that, they don't- at least not the ones who say they do a lot of the time: One of the ways to tell where your traffic is coming from is to go to traffic sources: now if it says google.com then it is a search engine that is bringing in traffic. That is good, but there is one which most do get confused with, and it can be very frustrating to a new writer. After all they need to publish something and it needs to have traffic for them to make money online.
If it says something like "mail.google.com" then no, that isn't search engine traffic but probably another person who clicked on the email that everyone gets when hub writers they follow have published a new hub. This is not search engine traffic, and this is where while you get visitors, which is great, you aren't going to eanr a whole lot.
The main reason for this is that most hubbers don't click on ads, we don't have time, and don't want to risk anything happening to our accounts. We are in business here as well. Of coruse, you will need to get us to read your hubs, but that is not as important, if you are foucsed on makling money online.
Search Engine Traffic
I have search engine traffic, I know this because I put in my title in the search engine myself, it ranks number one! Okay, good, you got a first page hub, but you also used the title, now, go and try a keyword you have on your hub.
Can you find your hub now? Where did it go? Well, in this case using a keyword from your hub, your hub does not do as well, and probably won't be found by others. That is the biggest thing about earning money around here. Your keywords have to relate well to your hub, and not be general. Using a keyword research tool- such as Google AdWords, should help with this-- look at eh traffic metrics and not how much money you can make.
Certain traffic is what I like to call "gold" traffic since this traffic often makes the user money. Focus on your keywords for search engines, but also look at your hub metrics and see what you can do to improve keywords and traffic. Again this is all a part of your business. The real thing is called work and passion.
Start by using the Google AdWords Keyword Tool, but don't worry about the money you might get based upon the "cost per click" but rather look at the traffic each keyword gets, for example if a search term (keyword) gets a million search queries per month are you willing to put int eh work to get first page ont eh search engines?
Making Money-- easy-- Sort of-- maybe
Waiting now to make money: Did you add links to social networking sites? There are many found under share it on hubpages, and I use Digg and Stumble Upon mostly, but there are Reddit and FaceBook and many others you can and should use.
Now I would estimate that there are a couple hundred social networking sites out there so don't be too surprised if people suggest different social networking sites. They pretty much all work the same, and a few links to a few social networking sites will help build up your links, but of course don't go overboard. Google does not like overboard. In fact, search engines love content.
Again, social networking sites will get your traffic and some links, but they often will not make you money. What they do for you is give you a link. So, this link can increase your visibility on Google.

So what is the reality of earning money? Well, it depends for some it takes a long time to make that first payout and for others it takes a few months. On average it takes between 4-7 months to make a payout with hubpages from Google AdSense.
This really means that for those people who give up too soon, they will not see success in terms of earnings, they didn't have the patience for this business. Also, be aware that there are a lot of hub writers who are way above the average time, meaning that they took a lot longer than seven months to get their first pay out with Google AdSense.
That's the reality. This is something most new writers do not want to see, they want money NOW and that is not how it works in this business. In fact I didn't make my first pay out from Google AdSense with hubpages until four months in. I hope that helps you get an idea of the work involved in building your hubpages business.

What Other things do I need to do to earn money?: Well keep on trying to build your lenses. I know that some places will not allow for amazon, but you can also look at your keywords to see what will help drive your traffic and increase the potential that some one will click on your ads.
Again, you need to use some basic money making knowledge, not everyone who reads a hub will find the time to click on an ad, and most often people on hubpages will not click on ads, as they don't want to get hurt by mistakenly click on one of their ads.
Again look into the keywords you use, some ads are not "big money making ads" and some are, which is why most people will complain that they are only make a penny a click. It is a beginning.
You will need to think of your long-term business, and that means increasing traffic, and getting more targeted traffic to your hubs and websites. The key to increasing your earnings is knowing what Google AdSense is looking for and looking at what you have chosen as your introduction to your hub.
A lot of the time, a choice of words can decrease your earnings, but working with improving your keyword choice can make a huge difference with what you make in terms of clicks with this, or any affiliate program.

The Last Word-- everyone starts at the beginning, no one is an expert at the beginning, and frankly if you say you are an expert and then proceed to stop learning you will quickly not be an expert. yes, you need to know about Google AdSense, but you also need to learn about what makes a "fine hub" to begin with.
It is the same with every aspect on online publishing, one has to improve: with their writing and their keywords choices and never give up. This doesn't mean you will become a millionaire, but it does mean that you will have a good chance that your published work will be found by search engines and other traffic sources. This in the end is the way to make money online.
Learn about Google and Google AdSense, be passionate about your work and your business, and have fun. The reality is you won't make money right away, and you have to prove yourself to Google and to others to make money... so now is the time to do that.
Part of the work means you need to learn and laugh at your mistakes, as most people do make them, but to also learn and expect that everyone who has been online for a while and has published online for a while has learned to do the fun things and the boring things to get their goals, and dreams come true.
Have fun, and love what you do.
To your Success

Very Informative, Thanks, just joined last week.
Brilliant Hub with some good points. I have been there. I made a living from writing in 2010 but since the Panda changes to Google, my earnings have slipped. Looking to make more money again now so I can live from my work from home earnings again. Awesome Hub, voted up :)
Great hub. I still bump into loads of people who think they can run this as a job instead of working 40 hours a week. I reckon writers put in more , for a lot less pay.
This hub has been voted up and useful. Thank you for all of the information. I think I will start linking my sites more now :)
Oh I wish it was a lot easier to make money - I was a slow hubber to make Adsense payout as it was nearly a year, but once it starts to come in it does snowball and your patience pays off. But got to keep on writing!
Thanks for your honest advice I did originally join up to make money I guess and sur it would be nice but I am having so much fun just thinking up hub topics (it keeps me awake)and reading other peoples hubs...I love it.
Nice, using Michelle's 30DC video. She really knows her stuff.
It's interesting that almost 50%, according to your poll, are in the lowest income range. Although I think a large portion of those are here for other reasons than just making money.
Good info here, thanks Rebecca!
Great hub! I learned a lot from this hub. It's true that money cannot be earned easily, you must really work for it.
Thanks for your info Rebecca. This is such a big help. Everything is making sense now. I guess I just have to wait for a few more months before earning big bucks.
Thanks for helping me. Take care Rebecca
Excellent hub!!! Thank you for your advices. I will bookmark it.
great hub...thanks
Thanks for the info. Rebecca - some interesting statistics in your poll - 40% of people have been doing this for less than 6 months, that seems to imply that there is a big turnover rate as lots of people drop out and give up - adn 54% make less than $40 a month ! Are there any that make over a $1000 ?
I think i can do more if i read more of your hubs. Some of your hubs That I've read is amazing.
Thank you for the advice and honesty. I am one of the newbies out there and I must admit, it is hard. But, the challenge is there and if you choose to contiue with the challenge, that is the first step to sucess.
I do read this hub again and hope get answer to My "zero money" from Internet. I had to promote my affiliate site at many, but until now never income i got. So, What problem with my promote? By read again I get some power question to solve my wrong at many site i had before and get seriously start again, again and again. thank Rebecca, your hub is very helpful to me.
Great hub, thanks for all that info!
I'll keep trying. Although I'm new, I hope I can eventually make money on this site.
Nice hub Rebecca.
I'm glad that you point out that you will not make money right away. I am just getting ready to get my first Adsense check....18 months after I started. Okay, I confess, I did get discouraged and took a couple of months off but after re-reading some of articles about making money on Hubpages, I returned and am currently making a little over $10 per month and hopefully will be able to improve on that figure.
Any online venture really isn't a get rich quick scheme. Some are just plain schemes, but all of the ones (that I've tried) have been long, hard work. After 4 years of working online, I'm getting the hang of it. I signed up for Hubpages a couple of years ago, but I've only recently begun to take it a little more seriously.
As a word of advice to anyone that's starting out, plan on being in this for the long haul. As evergreen topic pages in general start to age, they usually start to make more money over time. Like most other sites, it seems you have a long gap between payments in the beginning. The wait can be discouraging, but as you build more pages and link the related ones together, the time between payments closes, and eventually you'll have that monthly Adsense check.
Great hub!
Thanks for the quick response. I am willing to put in the work and I know I will succeed.
Hello I am new to HubPages and am glad to have joined a place with so many good articles. Your hub is full of good ideas and I voted useful info. If you have any advice for me I would appreciate it.
I am looking forward to making some money online and know that it is going to take some time as well as a willingness to learn from people who have already made money. I look forward to reading more of them. Have a great day.
Love this info you have shared. take care :)
Great hub thanks for useful information.
Thanks for the hub.
Very interesting surveys.
Great hub, lol its funny that I learned most from the comment of this hub. Especially ''not to crete hubs to make money, but to help and then money comes to you''. ^_^
Those are valuable information. I appreciate the honesty especially in setting proper expectations to writers. Thanks for sharing and love the video. More power!
can someone help me. I am having difficulties getting my text in my hubpage. How can I go about it?
thank you for putting such a wonderful and useful hub, vote up and useful from me.
hi... I found your hub and find it useful. Im new to SEO and trying to learn much as posible in short time. Im even in this yera challange.
I will be following you from now on. :)
Another great great hub, thank you Rebecca. Voted up useful. You said it normally takes on average 4 - 7 months to make your first payout, why such small numbers! Giving us, new hubbers some extra hope, lol! I've been here for two months and not even smelling the halfway payout mark! Though I get about 50 visits a day. I guess I need some more, alot more and I thought I was doing well!
A featured article, very useful, voted up! So much to hope for and work for to attain the blessings you write about. For the meantime, I'll do what I can possibly do one at a time. Keep up the good work!
Great read, glad this was on the homepage today when I felt like reading up on some money making tips! I should really utilise them but I'm far too lazy and its all too confusing! I'll just stick to writing hubs at the moment :D
Thanks for the read, Rebecca. I am starting to increase my earnings. I've read your previous hubs before and used some of your tips. You are truly a great inspiration. Thumbs up..
Great Hub.
I have to agree with several of the other comments. Making money on Hubpages takes real work and time. If I had given up after a couple of months, I would have made no money. It is essential to keep your eyes open for viable trending topics to write about. Not every topic will make you money. You also need to have some expertise on the topic or know how to research a topic well to write a good hub. I think many people are looking to make money without much effort. If they are, they will be disappointed on Hubpages. Thanks for the 'tell it as it is' hub. Keep up the good work!
thanks for the hub, great job.
great hub I enjoyed!
Nice job on the article here bec. Thanks for the tips.
great hub. thanks for the help.
thanks for sharing nice hubs :-)
Thanks - great info. I like the Video
I honestly don't create hubs for money, but I suppose we will see just what happens.
Anyway, that was a good read. Thanks.
Sound Good!!! this is useful for us and thanks many to share your views.
Excellent advice for newbies and oldies alike. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are Adsense earnings!
Thanks for sharing your tips with others. MM
22% over $500 is encouraging indeedy, I am heading in the right direction for sure and I have set myself targets. Hard work, patience and targets is all you need to make muchness dollars, another great hub Rebecca, yer the girl ; )
Btw I still learn something new everyday !
I enjoy it here much because a lot of hubs are really geared towards knowledge and self sufficiency topics, to name a few. And hubs don't get deleted just like that, which is way cool. It's all about traffic as well, and the challenge of making money here is a very healthy way to challenge oneself. I've nothing but enjoying my moment here each time. Great hub once more.:)
its all about traffic I guess, more the better.
thanks Rebecca I will try to bring in traffic from outside hubpages!
Thanks and a great advice. Learned the lesson again
Thanks. A good level set. I am just starting out here. I will plug away until the end of the year.
If I persist then I will come back and let you know what happened.
very helpful to me
Voted up and useful. You had, as always, some really good tips. Unfortunately it seems to be the nature of the beast to want things NOW. You are so right, if you don't hang in there you will never know any kind of success. Thanks.
Really useful and interesting hub!Thank You!
Good hub. You did well getting your first payout within 4 months. I think the average time for first-timers is 10 months (which is how long it took me) Now I get a check every month. Time, patience and good writing are the key(and research!)
Im making over 200$ a month online now. And I usually make around 15$ a month from adsense. People think way to small. Adsense is just one way of many to make money online. For me it is just icing on the cake from whatever my affiliate sites make. Im coming up on my first check this month it took me around 11 months.
Thank you for sharing such a informative and interesting hub.
I still don't get any check from Google, my target is $1 a day for the next 2 weeks.
Thanks for the tips
I'm not completely convinced honestly.
so you're saying you can't make money from hubpages but it's the search engines that matter. Please reply
i am a newbie blogger . And i hope have much traffic. Can u help me?
Just an FYI - do not submit your own hubs to SU or Digg. You will get banned if you do so, and even if not, your hubs will not get many votes or thumbs up. Create a supportive network of other friends that will submit your articles and do the same for them. Also, be prepared to work even harder to build legit social networking sites as you do hubs.
this is a good article- yes you willmake money eventually if you stick at it- but for me it is the enjoyment, the kind comments and the mental stimulation of research and being able to perhaps even influence and educate a world wide audience. Even with a little organic traffic it my hubs are read all over the world- i find that stunning
This is a very informative hub, some really great information. Thank you so much for this.
Your approach to format is brilliant-you place links, text and photos with care.
Thanks Rebecca!
Darn! I just commented and it got lost somehow. I had wrote that although I had hoped to make money from hubpages (ehow paid right away), I have learned that it will take some doing and time before that happens. Having said that, I love writing for hubpages and would do so whether or not I am compensated. I am growing as a writer, learning so much from the amazing hubs written by fellow hubbers and have made wonderful friends. I couldn't ask for more. Thank you for your marvelous hub. I always enjoy your articles. Rated up and useful.
Flag up and awesome.. Another "real-world" information hub... I appreciate it.
Thanks for your openness about making money. Is there a best place to put Affiliate links on a page; should they be integrated with the etxt or just placed at the end of the article?. Like to hear back and good luck.
This is really helpful since I am rather new on hub pages. I will join the stumble since I am on digg.
I like the "vote" on how much you earned. I have always wondered how realistic is the earning. Good to know so many earned above USD500 a month !
How do you do it Rebecca? Another great hub about making money online, you are an inspiration to the rest of us! Thanks
Thanx for the excellent advice and being truthful about hubpages. It would be nice if we could make lots of money overnight but like you put it it takes some work and sometimes months to be a success. Thanx again!
thanks for all the hubs on makeing money.it's been a big help.i'v been fixing hubs now.
Thanks for all the great info. You've covered everything clear and concise.
Brilliance! There are so many misleading articles out there on this topic. What you wrote is the reality of it.
You have to love this business to be in it. You do succeed, but yeah it's gonna take years not months. I started this venture in 2007 I am just now starting to see my hard work paying off. Oh and I checked where my traffic is coming in and most of it are coming from Google so is that good? Oh and tweeted and stumbled this is a gem!
You're right Rebecca, I never want to stop learning. That's why I'm following you.
I wonder too, Alison!
Thanks for all the useful tips. I think there must be a HUGE pot of money somewhere made up of all unclaimed little sums of money that people earned, then gave up before they ever got a payout. I wonder what Google does with it? Just a thought!
Hi, becca - At the end of your hub, you stated: "Have fun and love what you do." You are so right, and not just for writing on hubpages but for living a more satisfying life. It has always worked for me. Cheers!
Oh, and social networking definitely helps-I've noticed that about 25% of my traffic currently comes from Facebook! I had no idea so many of my friends were reading my articles until I checked the traffic.
This was very helpful, and cheered me up a bit. I haven't made any money from HubPages yet (although I have been a member for a year, I didn't post my first hub until a couple of weeks ago), and I was feeling a little down. With EHow and Epinions (two other sites I write for), I started earning instantly...as in, a day or two later...so while I didn't expect to be rich overnight on HubPages, I was surprised that my results were not similar. Great article!
i make about $1,000 a month, of which $17 has come from HP, but it is rising and I know it will be a decent source in a few months.
We'll I've gone from around 76 cents in my first month to just over $3 for this month (which hasn't ended yet) - so it is going up....slowly
I like this tips.Well done!
Most sincere thank you for your helpful tips.
I've learned again. Thanx.
I am often dismayed when I see someone whose first or second (or only) hub is a "how to make money writing for HubPages" article--especially when they portray it as easy to do or a way to earn money in their "spare time." It isn't easy and it certainly doesn't happen quickly. Patience is indeed important. Not everything we write is gold, and usually it takes awhile for an article to starting earning the writer money. In this regard, it takes patience to even see how we're doing.
Your advice is right on the mark, as always, and you are a voice of reason amongst us. As always, thanks.
Mike
I agreed with you that make money online, for example through hubpage is a long journey, your earning is based on your effort indeed....therefore keep learning and exposing to the essential of MMO is curcial, however MMO is a life long career, my believes.....great hub!
Thank you for the great advice. I have been on Blogspot for about 3 years, but never hoped for income (a little), but I know i have a lot to offer, and I am thankful for all of your great hubs.
Voted Up & Useful! Thanks again Rebecca, dynamic hub...

Nice hub. Lots of good, realistic advice. I especially liked the polls.
