Plagerism is to Plagerize: Plagerizing,The Internet ,Writing How it is affecting your money and Work in Different Ways

When you say Palgerize is it really stealing?
In a long ago life, I was once a college student. I actually got to know some of the teachers very well, and the discussion of plagiarizing was a nearly constant subject. At one point to gain some idea how not to do it, one teacher actually had it as a finals question here it is:
"You see a statement in a library book and it would be a very good beginning to a paper. Is it possible to reword it without giving credit? Why or Why not?"
Of course this was only after the school had found a ring of people were doing this on papers and knowingly selling them to others who would then reword it with no credit. This resulted in several suspensions and expulsions at the school. Not something anyone wants. It also looks bad upon the other students as there is more doubt that is put upon them. Content is content and when it's not your content or idea, acknowledge that fact. 75% might be yours but not the other 25%.
For the record I'll give a part of my answer, which by the way earned 48/50 can you guess the problem?
"A writer of any paper should always give their own points of view and back them up with reliable and usable sources... They should always have proof of when their ideas were formed and what prompted it. If it is taken off the Internet, this is not ethically wrong, but morally wrong. A thesis statement is your own thoughts based on a premise which could be reworded."
So where was it wrong? If you guessed the final part you are correct. As writers of any sort we need to be original and think about what writing is about, and should credit not be given it will be found out. Unfortunately, the longer that takes, the deeper the problem.
This is where the Internet comes in, it is very easy to find thesis statements or papers. Most professors at universities and colleges know about them and should the y suspect something they will look into it.
This is not to suggest in any way that a writer shouldn't paraphrase or rewrite something, but what this is saying is that hit the books, a thesis statement isn't that hard, a paper isn't that hard, for each break it down. For example, a thesis statement in history be a what if type thing: say "had Hitler begun the war in 1938, he would have lost" the rest is simply proving your statement. Easy enough?
All its takes is a bit of imagination and creativity and there will not be any guilt or justification and it becomes rather easy in the end. Writing what you know helps, and if you're not sure that is what teachers are for. They don't know everything but they are there to aid in the process.
Of course some are more forgiving than others, but does anyone want to chance their writing careers on a small thing? Or their college careers? Or their future livelihood? I know it may sound extreme but the most important point is that it's still playing with fire when the Internet and ideas are used, after all they could be wrong.
College Palgerizing and Future Money
College was long time ago and now with google and yahoo and just plain anyone with a computer can look up anything from making money and writing to entire pieces of documents that they wouldn't be able to find anywhere else.
Is it right to take other's works even on the internet?
No. that is where copyrights come into play. Writing is an art and there are some who don't respect this art, and would do anything to avoid doing something called "WORK". IF you have written something it is yours.
See, if you steal some's work, you might make money, but if for example you were to steal someone's work and then are found out, then you will not be making the money you want. This is why you will find that more and more websites will not allow for duplicate content, this way you can avoid future copyright issues. The more you protect your work the better.
Is Taking ideas without acknowlegement wrong?
See results without votingA few suggestion to protect you and your money and your works:
--- One save everything, even drafts. When push comes to fights, the dates matter. Notes, interviews everything, The more information you save the better, this way no one can argue that they have all teh information. Publishing is a tough business, so keep in mind your money and your copyright.
--Use stock photos or the same photo on online articles, unless it is a photo gallery. (Even then put something on each photo such as your name or something to prove it was yours to begin with) and save that photo somewhere-- watermarked photos are important but keep on eye on the TOS of websites. I can't tell you now many times photos will be taken. I use the same photos all the time, as this way if people use a stock photo their is the things called "common work" which means others can use it.
-- Make sure your writing is saved elsewhere as well. not just one computer, but on paper, and in USB drives and anywhere else you can think of. Save it as different drafts so that there is proof of progress on the same piece of work.
This is you work and you do need to be aware of copyrights, and how they affect you and your work and your money.
To your Success.

This answers a lot of my questions, thanks Rebecca. However I was wondering about photos and images ,I thought it was ok to use images from anywhere for free as long as you link back to it , is this true?
Very good information. Because I'm just beginning my writing career, if that's what you want to call it, I need all the help I can get. When I write I don't like to research, unless what I'm writing needs collaboration, such as facts, etc. But maybe that's wrong too. As you can see I am really just learning, so I will continue to read your hubs. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks for the insight, Rebecca. I've often questioned how exactly to avoid plagerism, and tend to OVER cite things I gleen information from. Can you take a look at my hub about improving communication and tell me what you think?

Jai-- the idea is the sam photos, unless they ar stock photos have thesame copyrigh as any other piece of work. But you should put where you get photos anyways.
