The Facts And Myths of Making Money Writing Online With Google AdSense: On Hubpages and With a Fine Hub
78Facts are Facts... But then Myths Sounds Like Facts
As writers we can live and work in two different worlds. One is working online, and building an online business, and the other is working offline, building a freelance business that makes money for you and allows you to continue writing.
Both worlds are a paradox of sorts since they act independently and dependently of each other. Writing for a living requires a lot of dedicated and focus, but it also requires an understanding of basic money rules, and budgeting.
You have to be at one point serious about building your business and at the same time you need to be able to take a step back and review your plans for your business and learn about making money with your writing, and not with other methods of making money. (Such as affiliate programs, like amazon or Google AdSense)
There are many facts and myths that writers deal with so, do you know what is fact and what is myth in terms of making money with your online writing?
The Myth of Writing Online in Enough Places to Make Money
Myth: If I write on enough online sites, often enough that will be good enough to make money with my writing.
Fact: If your writing is not good, then chances are it is a short term event where you make money at smaller sites such as Bukisa, or Triond, Wikinut, and many others where you can publish your online content, and each will make you a bit of money but when you "graduate" to a site which has more strict editorials you will find that your writing will not be accepted, or if it is, you do not make money long-term, from such sites as Demand Studios, Stite101, or Associated Content.
This fact means that you need to focus on improving your writing and building your skills in as many different facets of the writing business as possible. Hubpages is a place to improve your promotion of your writing, but as it DOES NOT have editorials, it is NOT a great place to improve, unless you are determined to do so.
Writing Great Content is a fact, Just Writing to Make A lot of Money without Content... is a Myth
Myth: If I write on a regular basis, I will make money with what ever I write. I know that Google AdSense will help me with that part. And with all the sites that are out there such as article directories, and blogs, man I have it made.
Fact: No, no and no. Writing content on a regular basis is one thing, but there is such a thing as writing to make money and writing to help others. Most people who write for money can be found complaining about the money that they do make.
Google is not here to help you, and neither is anyone else. You will not make money with whatever you write, some articles are simply designed to get traffic to your other writing. For example some people use a site called Bukisa to drive traffic to their blogs or hubs. The money from these sites, is extra for them. It is a plan that they have.
As for article directories, if you don't write, you do not have the potential to get traffic to your other online work, and you will need about 200, 400 word articles in one directory to make much of a difference in traffic. Understand the information about traffic from article directories and why you should cut and paste on these sites.

Look At Your Online Writing NOT the "hot Topic" you know Nothing about... It Will not make you Money
Myth: I can write on the "topics" of the day and make money with my online writing because I'll just add links from some "really high ranking site."
Fact: It is interesting to read about how people look at hubpages as a whole or Squidoo as a whole and then say that "this site has such a high rank on Google and it as a site has a high page rank, this will make me money. They assume a lot of factors which really are not fact simply because this is the way some article said they have made money for them. Adding links to high ranking sites is an idea... but it is only an idea.
It will not.
Try checking each of your hubs for their own page rank, you find something very interesting most if not all of your hubs do not have the same page rank as hubpages itself. Which means that you will have a lot of work to do to create a page rank for each of your pages, which means getting traffic and getting quality links. This is the nature of the business.
It is the same with article directories really you need to have at least 100 articles and a good ranking in one of the sections so, for example is you have say 100 articles in 100 different topics, you will do nothing for traffic or your business. So while a link on a quality website is great it will not make you money if you don't focus.

Thanks Rebecca - very helpful for a newbie like me! There is such an amazing world online - it's great to have some well written articles to sort out the wheat from the chaff!
I'm not that good at writing, so I write at Triond. What I like about Triond is that once my article is published, it automatically gets a unbelievably great search result indexing top ten. What I mean is that once it is published, it is always in the top ten of a google search that is similar to your title.
Thanks, Rebecca. Some good things to look out for. I've heard many, many times that "quality is King" and you seem to agree with the cliche, as do I. There are other facets to it, but without the quality it will not happen.
edit; I'm sorry, somehow my clumsy mouse work has double posted; you might deny this comment.

well written and honest.
thanks for the great read.
Great Hub. Interesting information. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for giving it to us straight!
Great way to look at things, very informative and it is easy to be lured by the bright lights and promises of 'make money blogging' sites. As you rightly say, it is all about content and quality, which if you want to be published is what it's all about anyway. Good hub, first one I've read for a few months, now I'm back.
Thanks for the info
Thanks for sharing this valuable information as I am looking for starting work of online article writing and this hub really helps me a lot.
Eye opener! I'm working online. It's hard to write if you don't speak the language.
Such a difficult topic to address because there are so many misconceptions. I'm going to forward this to some friends.
Great Hub. Writing will always be a learning experience. Honing the craft everyday. Content in of itself may make short term change, but skillful writing in any form will reward you long term.
Whatever you write speaks volumes of not only your skill, but your character and integrity.
Whether you are writing an article for The Times or crafting a quick How-To for a content site, always strive to make each article your best.
Great info and very interesting article.
Hub up,Thanks for sharing.
One myth we believe is the one that if you are interesting in something you can write about it. The truth is that you have to write about it in such a way as to make it interesting to other people!
Once again, thanks for a hub full of useful advice. We've rated it up.
Thanks Rebecca. Loved the Video and found a few things to look into. Doing the usual and sharing. :)
Hey Robert, I see what you mean... I can`t complain about how my writings has been attracting readers but knowing that English is not my mother language you would agree that it can be considered work to me :D
funride,
Work isn't what writing is about. It's about finding and following a compelling idea and working out the cleverest, newest way of contemplating the fallout from that idea. The work is in ginning up the imagination to get authentic word sounds for yourself in the first place and then maybe you'll attract readers. IMHO!
Great hub... lets hope it ranks well in every search engine so that everybody looking for "making money online" would find this page and learn from it ;)
In a few words: work, work and more work!
It's my first time to try something like this and I know I've got to learn a lot before I start earning money from writing. I think what you said can be very helpful, especially to newbies like me. Thanks! :)
Very interesting. Getting money by writing online is not easy, we need to control and work several variables: quality of writing, and profitable topics of interest, focus, and many other things discussed here. Excellent work. Thanks. ;)
nice to know the truths. thanks
We all laugh at "get quick rich" schemes in real life, but many of us suspend our disbelief when it comes to online riches.
There are people who make an income, or a good income, online but they work hard for their money.
There seems to me to be a number of requirements
1. The ability to write good copy.
2. The ability to write copy people want to read (which is not the same thing)
3. A good knowledge of how to attract through SEOs, backlinking etc.
4. An understanding of monetisation
5. A willingness to distort 1 and 2 to write "5 best bikinis" with links to Amazon etcetera
No offense meant to anyone out there reading these words, but myths make experts out of pretenders. Have enough of them at your disposal and hey--you are suddenly an authority. You point out quite correctly that it doesn't matter what the prevailing wisdom is, you still have to do the work. Your writing must still be of high quality and of interest to someone.
Thanks for once again allowing us to see what we are doing here a little more clearly.
Mike
Very nice, Rebecca. I was lucky to have a good friend who has already been through all this, and helped me when I got started, so I avoided a lot of the pitfalls. I learned that it will take about 3 years for most people who write for only one site to start making decent money on that site. 3 years! I'm so happy that I have DS, because without it, I would be in big trouble.
Hi Rebecca, it is quite thoughtful of you to present these myths and state or clarify the truths. Though writing should be strictly for knowledge sharing, but getting a few cents for your hardwork wont be a bad idea, or what do you think? Thanks once more for your deep insights.

I never fail to learn at least one nugget of info from you, Becca. This time was no exception. You mentioned three sites I did not know of - the smaller sites - Bukisa, Triond and Wikinut. "Multumesc iubirea mea."

Thanks a lot for all the info. As someone who is new to online writing I find it tough to sludge through what is true and what isn't.
Thank you Rebecca for this hub. It is very useful. As I told you I have cut way back on my writing since I am teaching 2 college classes at a local university. However, I do write for hubpages and suite101 from time to time and earn a bit of spending money.
Thank you for sharing this eye opening hub. Personally I write for pleasure, and to share my limited knowledge about the wildlife of Britain. Obviously if people are writing to make money they will do well to visit this hub as soon as possible.Rated up. Thanks again.
Well written and it is the truth. Well done, Rebecca.
