Traffic Factor: Four Things That Help Me Increase Traffic
79Four Ways to Increase Traffic Fast
How do you increase traffic and make money with your hubs, and it is a common question, and to me, it is about getting traffic to a fine hub, or in my mind several fine hubs. I always say the more hubs the better but there is an art to getting traffic, just as there is an art to getting the right sort of traffic if of course you want to make money or have a bit of a business or hobby on the side.
What it boils down to is that you increase your traffic over time with the intent of making money but given that traffic is the only way to make money I'll include it in my thoughts. To me, the four things which help get traffic are: Content, Keywords, SEO and linking between your websites and blogs and also lining to your work from other sites.
So I'll give you a run down in no particular order, how these help me increase my traffic faster and effectively. You need quality, but you will need to focus and then you will need to work hard and with quality traffic, you will have the money from Google AdSense that you want.
Quality Content is A Must
If You Don't have Content Traffic Won't Come: I Put this as the top thing you need, but really I read the answers section and one thing I've noticed is this: Many who complain they don't get traffic and don't make money are the ones WITH NO HUBS!
You need content, which means you need hubs. Preferably hubs that have links to them and a good score. This is a way to get traffic. Now, before you go asking for my head about making money, I'll say this if you don't have traffic you won't make money and to get traffic you need more than a profile.
What Do you Need to Fix?
First go to your lower scoring hubs and look at the hub metrics, This is a good thing to look at, as it gives you a general idea. But it tells you where you traffic comes form for you hubs. What you want to see is this: At the month mark of your older hubs there should be at least three different places you are getting traffic from. for example: hubpages, a social networking site (Stumble Upon or others like it) but also a search engine traffic. If you are really particular, the percentages will be up to you.
Why these three types? It will tell you your content is good, especially if you have some traffic from Google or MSN or Yahoo. In fact, I would say begin to cheer if you get traffic from Yahoo or MSN. Because we tend to focus on the big one Google, we forget that the other two are also based on quality content.
So write, and edit and fix it up, and fix it up some more and THEN publish a hub that has about a score of 60. This score will also help traffic to your other hubs especially if you link some of your older hubs to your newest hub.
Keywords Help Traffic but Your keywords need to have quality and luck: Now, I have heard many arguments for both sides of keywords, but you need them to get traffic. There is a good way and a bad way to get keywords. Quality and thinking count for a lot here.
One takes time, go to for example Google AdWords and use the Keyword tool to learn about how you can get traffic by using certain keywords. There are many sites like it, so I can say with some certainty that it will be about 200 or more hours before you will understand and master the basics. But in a nutshell this time will allow to get familiar as to how people think and how people search on the Internet. Now some Will call this SEO (search engine optimization) but it is more than that.
The other way is course something you DO NOT want to do, that is filling your article or blog with keywords to make people come and read your site. Not only will this destroy a hard earned reputation it will of course drop your sites down the search engines pretty quick. This also goes for the sites such as hubpages or the social networking sites.

Links Are big For Traffic: I can say this as a matter of fact, no links no traffic, no traffic no comments, no people or readers. Help them find you. Now not all links are created equal. This is a big one.
For example, if you use say Stumble Upon, and you have few subscribers you will not see much traffic from your links, it is common to see someone say they stumble their hub all the time or use a social networking site all the time only to "Stumble" a hub of theirs and they don't even have a link on stumble upon. You are only shooting yourself in the foot for traffic.
Social Networking get traffic, you need to find people and subscribe to them, but also, you need to put your hubs on them. This creates a link. This does NOT mean you make money. I find that the social networking sites are great for traffic, but not entirely for money.
The links which create the best traffic in terms of making money are the ones say from the Google search engines. These ones for some reason do make money. I think it is because Google has it down to a science as to how people think and what they want in terms of needing something. Now of course there is a way to help this out, link between hubs and link on your blogs and websites. This is important.
Now I'll add this, I found this out by adding my hubpages profile to Google analytics and spent a good 50 hours figuring it all out. If you don't have google analytics, get it. This one is a bit confusing but it is a huge help for learning about links and what is important with them.
What you are looking for with Google Analytics is what your work says, for example if 100 people come and they only stay on your hubs for less then 10 seconds, then you will not make money on the traffic you have there.
The other information you can find is which hubs make you money, or where people are coming from or if they are repeat readers.

SEO, or the Search Engine Factor: Now for me, this is the thing that make or breaks good traffic. I can say always count on hubpages traffic or social networking sites traffic but the thing that I am still learning to get on a more regular basis is search engine traffic.
See I know some will say oh well search engines traffic is easy to get... but I will say yes it is easy but you need to learn how to harness the three things before this one to get it.
Search Engine traffic comes from: great quality content, excellent keywords, and of course links, a few really good links ( remember not all links are created equal...) So, it is something you need to learn about. I have worked with Google AdWords on this on but also followed some ezinearticles about traffic and search engines.
For the most part, there is good search engine traffic and not so good search engines traffic which is why you need to patrol your comments well. This means some comments are going to lower your ranking on search engines and some might even harm you in more ways than you care to think.
The biggest thing about SEO is the time factor at this point I have about 300 hours invested in learning more aboutSEO and traffic and of course how it relates to making money. I suspect that I'll need another 200 hours to be confident in regular traffic coming from the search engines. It is in my mind worth it.
What is Improtant??
See results without votingJust keep writing and learning there are many sites out there who can help you and that you can work with to learn about what you need to do. expect that you will need to write 2 hubs per week to keep traffic coming it is a business after all. So think like a business.
The one thing I recommend it fixing your hubs. Yes you can edit anything except the URL to the hub. Adding more content is always a good thing. Sometimes the best thing is deleting a capsule or decreasing or improving your amazon or eBay capsules to promote your hubs better. So try it out, get to know hubpages. Then expand on the good beginning. Keep writing high quality hubs and help will come to you.
To your success.

This hub was invaluable to me. I am still trying to figure out search engines. One day I'm high up there, and the next day I disappear.
I will take your suggestions to heart, especially the ones about tweaking your hubs and writing 2 hubs or more per week.
Sounds like you've put in a lot of time, but you've learned a lot, too. Thanks for sharing with us!
Great hub. As a marketer that does SEO for a living, this is definitely a hub to look in to for more clicks and views!
Thanks for writing this hub. As a new hubpage writer I am really soaking this in but it will take some time for me to apply and implement for success. I will look forward to reading your hubs.
Great lens! Very helpful.
Cool
Great Hub Rebecca E. Thanks for sharing. I have to bookmark this.
cool...
Great information Rebecca, I too am new to Hubpages but have been working in IM for 3 years now. After the recent google chances we all need to rebuild a lot of our backlinks, we must make sure they are from on topic/relevant websites. This is a great chance for a few newbies to hit the front page of the big G and other search engines for hard to reach keywords.
Thanks again
Danny
Thanks for this information.
It's really helpful for me.
What terrific advice and it was all free! That's the great thing about Hubs I learn something new all the time. I enjoy reading other Hubs so much that sometimes it interferes with my writing! I agree that the first thing to do is write quality content and then take the next step to getting readers!
I am amazed again about the mass of comments.
Really do like the informations you share. Winderful. Thank you.
I couldn't get traffic if I parked my car in the middle of the road. LOL. I must be an idiot or a dummy or stupid as a rock or something. I read articles all the time but keep writing poetry which gets ZERO traffic. Its my passion but "it don't pay da rent!" I'll keep reading and learning as you suggest. Thanks for your help.
thanks rebecca !
Thank you for yet another great hub you are the best
I am a newbie to Hubpages. I would like to know if it is ok to email friends and family to let them know about my Hubs? Can they tell their friends? Also, I have access to very large email databases, can I use them to encourage others to read my Hubs? I mean these databases are HUGE!
Thanks... Its such a nice Hub, now I'll score high...
Thanks for the in-depth tips Rebecca. Being new to Hubpages and seeing such a low score has got my a little worried, but hopefully will increase soon.
i can't figure out how to get google analytics to track my hubs... it has a code it wants me to put on my page... I am confused on how to get this to work
Great hub (: But i am more here to comment my vote: content. I think that is better to have 95 hubs good and 5 extraodinary than 25 exttraordinary. Because 90% of the people who will type in the google only care to have her problem solved, and don't care much about that text itslef. Of course the hub need the basic rules, but you know i want to get? Of course I'm not talking about an opinion or something like that, but an ordinary hub.
Rebecca,
Great Hub !!!!
I will definitely bookmark.
Thank you for sharing............I'm new to Hubpages and this is just the info that can help me shave some time off the learning curve. :)

teitophile-- there is a bit of Google dance these days-- but the most valuable suggestion I can make is edit, and keep writing hubs, but also wait.
