You Won't Improve Traffic Or Make Money With Duplicate Content or Copied Hubs
63Traffic and Content and Money
For most hubpages writers this is not a problem. In fact few get this, the little tag called duplicate content on any of their hubs. This however is an important flag, one which needs to be taken very very seriously if you want to improve your hubs, and improve your business and improve your return of money. You want traffic to your hubs and to your other writing, and it needs to be fresh and original.
If you see various flags on your list of hubs you have written it is a good thing to check them out. One of the few which is not viewed as being bad is the "duplicate content" flag... this is an important flag not only for you but for traffic and business and of course making money. After a while of having too many flags such as duplicate content or broken links or anything like that you will find your traffic will decrease or drop off all together. You might be everywhere, but all your work is EXACTLY the same... also now, duplicate content is not allowed at all on hubpages.
So, first off: What does that duplicate content mean to me?
It means right now you will have that hub deleted, and it is also against the Terms of Service here... but what about other websites?
Duplicate Content is...
Duplicate Content: The famous cut and paste or "stealing" from other sources. Stealing?? Yes, Stealing, if you are using some one else's work or links to build your work. I do not mince words here, if you cut and paste your own work you are still duplicating your content. Now, most people should be aware of copyright issues, but this is important, if you cut and paste other people's work it is stealing and the consequences are huge.
Now, duplicate content does not mean a link or a small 100 word synopsis of something, it means either 10% or more of the content is taken from somewhere else. Now, of course, most will not do this, and most are pretty good people, but even by doing this to yourself you are losing something which you might not see as a "thing" in the beginning.
MONEY. Your Search engine Traffic should a person complain you have stolen their content, loss of your google AdSense account. If you simply duplicated your won content, loss of traffic long-term.

Making Money and Analogy
Making Money means helpful... think a whole bunch of duplicated content will do this for you? Why? In a business people look for a choice, and orginal content. Now, let's take this analogy and expand it.
Say you have a hub one writing and then you go to another online article writing place and cut and paste this article there. Now, it is a new audience, but after a while, people are smart and they will see your "hubs" everywhere. Believe me, hub writers are a bit of a community pack people.
I can find many hub writers on Squidoo and Hubpages and Wikinut and I have a feeling on Associated Content and Constant Content. You'd better believe that people will not come to one place if they know you'll have the work in FULL somewhere else very quickly. This is a business and people look for new and exciting.
Repeat After me: Never duplicate Content...
Fine But I make money and the same content is everywhere. It's mine I can do with it what i want!
Sure you can. But the consequences may not be right away, but think of it long term, I can almost guess, based upon the video that not only does Google not like content that can be found everywhere, but also will find a way to make your work "go away,"
Now, it goes to show, that when you start to write a hub it even says that copied content will not be accepted, or spam or other types of content, which you end up saying yes to. So, it does not help to duplicate your content. In the end you will not make money on something people will not find.
Repeat After me: Never Duplicate Content... you won't make money in the end.
Think like a business: So, what about links? Okay links, I know a lot of people will use social networking and social bookmarking sites to build traffic to their hubs and other online articles. Good for you. It is exactly what you should be doing.
Some people are afraid of links, you know put your hub out there and maybe people will say it is duplicate content. Links are different. A link is usually the title of the hub as a web address. People click on the title and then go to the hub.
You aren't duplicating content, you are making it more visible, and often it will have a bit of a blurb to start people wanting to come to read the rest. So linking is an important part of building traffic and your business, and make money.
Again repeat after me: Never duplicate content.
Now, again repeat after me: hubpgaes is a no go for duplicate content. if you are found with duplicate content, then it will be deleted. Thisis a bad thing the better you ORIGINAL content is the more likely you will be okay with anything over the long-term.
Thinking long-term is key to creating quality content, which in turn is key to make the money you want to make online.
Again repeat after me: Never ever ever duplicate content on any site from any site. It is a bad thing.
Duplicate Content Isn't A BAD Thing....
See results without votingThe Last Word--- I believe that as a business you need to be out there, but you do not ever need to copy your content everywhere. I believe that we as business people and as writers are better than that.
Not only that but if you want traffic to keep on coming you need to be creative. Yes I know it is hard to do something new each day, but guess what? I hear that we only use 10% of our brains, so expand your mind and you'll find you can be creative in this business every day.
Writing and publishing hubs are not that hard, any one can do it and do it well, but you need to be patient and not feel the need to be some one else. Be yourself, that is the best thing you can be.
To your original success.

Nicely written article about a serious topic: copied content. It really is easier to just write something new as lots of times by the time I finish my research and my article, I'm pretty burned out on that topic anyway:) Voted up.
Would duplicate be the same as copied?
Such useful information. God Bless You.
Unfortunately I seem to be stumbling my way through online writing. One of the mistakes I made was posting duplicate content. It was my own work from a different page, but I didn't realize at the time how it could effect my overall scores and/or revenue. Needless to say, they're all gone now; deleted or revised into a totally new article, but I'll never forget that lesson.
Yes I agree, best to publish unique content every time.
Rebecca I found your hub very useful and rated it up. I agree with you that it's not worth copying contents everywhere on the web, even though it's from your own hubs. Continue to write useful hubs like this one. Regards
I agree with you - this brings home the message that original content is king here.
Thank you, Rebecca.
Duplicating content is also boring. Writing about the same topic (like MLM which is always the same melody about attitude, money, events, gurus, money, attitude... etc.) should be made interesting by the writer. If not, you will not attract people to your content.
Rated "Up" and "Useful." You underlined for me useful information...
As usual good stuff. Thanks for the great article
Thanks for the video-fascinating stuff, Rebecca. Thank God I stick to HP these days or I'd probably be tempted to copy and paste away!
Rebecca I loved the advice. I am certain I will not really need to copy things, as my head is pouring with more words than I can speak or write. But we can all step into a mistake if not aware, and ignorance may cost us dearly. Thank you for the warning and guidance.
Every once in a while I get a Google Alert about a copy of my business site that someone used elsewhere. Then I ask the webmaster to remove it. Your hub just reminded me that I should do the same monitoring my hubs with Google Alerts. Thanks.
I agree, original content is best and most interesting as well.
Thanks Rebecca. Rated up and useful. A lot of people are completely unaware of this. I recently had an (apparently very well-meaning) site owner approach me to 'just check if it was OK' to repost one of my hubs to her site. She seemed to think she was doing me some sort of favor (rather than stealing from me and messing with my search engine rankings). I said no, explained about duplicate content and suggested she link to my hub from her site instead. I was pretty shocked that she seemed to think that all stuff on the internet is produced for the free use of everyone else!
Excellent job laying down the law! Very persuasive writing.
I moved four articles from a site where they really did not fit to here. I own that other site, so I removed them and added .htaccess Moved Permanently redirects, I felt that would be fine, but HubPages still flags them as dupes.
I thought maybe they had been taken by someone - I have had that happen, though I would not expect it with these four. I checked, but no, they really do not exist anywhere but here.
I wonder why HP still thinks they are dupes.
Hi Rebecca, again thanks for your assistance in my URL problem. No flags for me yet and if I do get one I will respond quickly. Have a great day Rebecca
It is a timely point. Yes, I agree with you. Also it is not necessary because there is so much material out there to write about.
You are right about duplicate content. I rewrite anything I want to post somewhere. Very good hub that can save people a loss of money! 2 thumbs up!
I'm new to hubpages but have had a blog for a year. I am also new on Redgage. I thank you for your advice as I was advised to take my hubs and put on redgage and/or my blog. There is so much to learn in this new computer age and I am glad there's someone out there like you that knows the etiquette. Rated this up and useful! Many thanks!
New, fresh and well written (I hope). No repeats for me! Thanks, Kaie
I agreed, same topic and same way of writing will not bring you far.
It is important as writers and business-people to hold ourselves to the highest standard possible. Sure, we might write something silly, but it should never be someone else's silliness. We should always make the effort to represent ourselves properly over the web--and that especially means with originality.
Thanks for a particularly powerful lesson on writing online.
Mike
Rebecca, Very good advice as always.
Thanks for the great advice. Your right, it is tempting to put up duplicate content, but you shouldn't do it. Laziness is the fastest way to destroy your business.
Good advice! How do I link my topic with yours if we have the same topic? I am ignorant with technical terms and do not know about this. I have not done any such course.
I do read about SEO, but I do not practise it, but I managed to have some page one ranking on my hubs. I tried asking question on HubPages, but was unable to get through asking the question, so I just gave up. You seem to be quite a technical person. I would appreciate your help.
voted up & useful! very good advice and typical of you... only the best will do. I must say I've been tempted- but decided against it. Honesty is still the best policy!

Donna-- you can write a lot of original content, and that I think is a long term plan-- but people I am sure seem to think that if they copy they will make money faster-- which isn't always the case. For example this is copyrighted... so it's a lot easier to protect in one spot than another.
